tennis ball rebounder

This is an item that allows you to hit by yourself and with out a wall. There are various types out there. I had the Tourna model years ago. I've noticed that many places are out of stock.

For those that have used this...did you notice if it changed your swing path? Curious as I would like to get another one but not at the expense of it changing my game.

I got two of these from Academy Sports. The string broke within the first hour so I took the second one back.

Get a rebound net if your backyard is big enough. This is also our soccer goals, the Aussie Rules goals and the cricket wicket keeper! My 2 boys use it every day for some reason or other

they are fun to play around with because you feel so silly that its hard not to laugh at yourself. For that alone they are worth the money.

Does it simulate tennis. Heres the deal...
They dont last very long... rubber cord breaks depending on how more power you have
The ball speed goes in reverse meaning it picks up speed the nearer it gets dloser
The bounces are very erratic due to the way the cord is attached to the ball
You have to aim your trajectory high....higher than normal
You must hit a flat ball...
Forget useing your strokes.... it will take everything you have to survive

You can kind of work on half volley timing... continental grip pop up right off the bounce. These devices are more helpful to a beginner with no strokes just slapping the ball around like an idiot. In fact the device will make anyone feel like an idiot. Try it after having a few beers and you might accidently kill yourself..... or throw up.

Positive is they dont cost much and make pretty good doorstops.

You can also get the same sensation with one of those wood paddles that has a rubber string tied to a rubber ball. Those also will make any competent racquet handler look like a complete fool.

Have fun and be safe..... I would suggest goggles.

Go pick one up, get excited, set up a workout routine, and give it a shot. When your done you can have a friend kick you in the nuts and it will be more beneficial towards your tennis skills.

@magnut ahahahah. that was a great one.

Hit a bunch of points I had in mind and felt the same way. I remember hitting a specific way to use it. I don’t think it is going to be something I can swing at like i normally do.

You need to have a certain mentality when going head to head with one of these monsters. The ball basically takes on a life of its own and starts attacking you. Its no dummy either... it can wrap the cord around your legs or racquet rendering you defenseless. Darth Maul could not master one of these "training" devices.

Whatever you do make sure you record it.

I am overstating a lot of this for humor by the way. You can get in a little of a rythem if your a good athlete and get the feel for the timing. The demonstrations are funny because you have some Jim Belushi style athletes trying to look good. It does not give you a good feel for tennis.... however...... if you can get really really good on one of these you can probably beat Roger Federer. At least you will think you can. Then you will go out and get tooled by some 70 year old hacker.

I have had one of these for two years now. I really quite enjoy using it. I wouldn't say I can hit a proper stroke or very high power, but I can use windshield wiper forehands, really brush up on the ball and get a lot of spin going which is fun enough. As someone else commented they do pick up pace in the opposite fashion to normal shots, they get faster the closer they get to you.

Look, it isn't rallying, it isn't a proper replacement for a match or practice, but I find it fun enough in the back yard when I have been unable to find a buddy to play against for a couple of weeks.

Most people make the mistake (as the video showed) of standing really close to the base. Put it a good way ahead of you, say 5 or more meters. That way the cord can extend fully away from you (the ball will be a long way out when hit properly) and can do the same coming back towards you. This gives it slightly more realistic trajectory and movement, as well as allowing you to you use proper footwork and better stroke styles, rather than rushing like crazy and hitting a variety of weird and whacky shots, as the people in the video were!

I bought thicker elastic for mine. Much more durable and a far better snapback which made it much more useful.

@Rozzdawg thanks for your input. When I first got it i lived on a street that had an incline so it was tough to use. I used it at work one time where it was flat but I was probably standing too close to the base...as you had mentioned to stand futher back.

What I did notice back then was I seemed to have to hit a different shot/ground stroke as to have the ball have a rebound so that I could hit it. Standing too close to the base might have been the problems.

Cheers

I want to get one but most reviews say the 'string style' are not durable and don't give accurate shot practice. Most reviews state broken balls and strings making them useless within the first practice session.

The table style I am very interested in if they can be folded for storage.
