Tennis Club League Brings in Ultimate Ringers - LOL!

Imagine playing in a club league and then having to face up to one of these players!

Caroline Wozniacki has agreed to play for a local Czech tennis league club if it reaches Saturday’s finals.

The star-studded Agrofert Prostejov team from eastern Czech Republic includes sixth-ranked Tomas Berdych, Andrey Golubev of Kazakhstan and Petra Kvitova, who beat Wozniacki at Wimbledon.

I know it's bit of a different thing, but just imagine that you're a pretty good player in your club, maybe a 5.5+, and you walk in and have to play a WTA or ATP pro. It would kind of stink but kind of be cool at the same time (IMHO).

I wonder if there are any club teams in the US that have stacked their team with pros or former pros.

I once had a nightmare that I'd asked Andy Roddick to play with me in our member/guest mixed tournament. And we lost. LOL

From what I understand club tennis in Europe is not like club tennis in the US. There are professional clubs in Germany, not sure what is like in Czech leagues.

In the US, I remember an interview with Lisa Raymond. She had some friends that wanted her to drop in play as a sub in 4.5 mixed league at their club. She said the male players kept saying that she was really good and she should try be a pro.

As for clubs in Europe, you mean there are clubs that host professional leagues? Paying the players who play for the team that represents their club?

Still - even if you are a club team pro playing low loevel pro events, you have to hate seeing a beast like Berdych show up in the finals.

A couple of locals here in Austin, David Corrie (former D1 player) and Ed Corrie (current D1 player), had to play against Andy Murray last year in a similar type of thing. They're both from England and flew back to the UK to represent their hometown against Murray's hometown. They held their own but lost to Murray in doubles, although their team went on to win the overall match. Pretty cool stuff.
