Hello could someone explain to me the difference between 'Overgrips' and 'replacement grips'.. just about grips basically.

I've had this racket for over a year now and the grip worn down and gone hard with sweat and dirt and it's torn a bit. I was thinking of taking the origional grip off the racket and replacing it with a PU super grip which i've had for a while. Is this right? Or should I leave the grip alone and put a thin leather grip over it or something? Is it not recommended that I attempt to actually replace the racquet's existing grip? :s

A replacement grip will replace the existing grip. Head to our learning center for the correct procedure:

Whether you choose to use an overgrip or not, it sounds like you are in need of a new replacement grip first. If your racquet is only a year or so old, you should be able to find an exact replacement for the original grip. However, there are many types of replacement grip including leather. For a list of replacement grips head to:

An overgrip is placed over the existing grip. Many players choose to use an overgrip as they are easily replaceable, come in a variety of feels (tacky, absorbent, textured etc.) and come in a variety of colors. For a full list of overgrips head to:

The beauty of using an overgrip is that you can quickly replace it during a change of ends if you feel your grip slipping.

Thanks for the info.

I can't find an exact replacement grip though. My racket is pretty cheap really (slazeneger extreme force) but saying that, I can't seem to find any replacement Slazenger grips AT ALL.

Also, are Overgrips relitively thin? because I tried putting another grip on top of this one.. but it went from 4 3/8 to about 5 inches which is way too big obviously.

I'll replace the grip though. It's ripped and all sorts. Thanks.

yes, overgrips are thinner, because they are put over replacement grips. most overgrips are about half the size of replacement grips. i think yuo should go with a replacemnt grip. you don't need a grip from the same manufacturer of the racquet. i like wilson replacement grips. if you decide to get overgrips, i'd go with yonex super grap.

I agree

I agree with Psycho. If you are going to go with overgrips, Yonex SuperGrap is the way to go unless you have real sweatly palms like I do. In that case, you should go with the Wilson H2O. I use this overgrip in the summertime when it gets massively humid here. Other than that I use the SuperGrap.
