tennis pro's and burnout

posted this in health/fitness section. then realized i'd probably get more response/interest here:

huge hullabaloo here in canda with people looking at the women's no-shows at rogers cup... i was surprised. tennis got alot of publicity from non-tennis type people... and some good points raised. here are some of them.

1) no one too mad at women pro's. i think most people think it was legit. people think the tour is too grueling.

2) a columnist said bjorn borg retired because of the gruelling schedule

3) why do baseball pitchers get 4 days rest (at least - off-day too??)??? tennis players play often every day (occasionally twice a day - rusedski in montreal). are baseball pitching and tennis serving somewhat similar? i agree, although i think pitching is alot harder on your arm.

anyhow thought people would find this interesting... other comment in press and from friends who went - some of these women are huge (unnaturally so??)

What kind of response do you want?

what do you think???? could just be a comment too. don't necessarily need a response... was wondering mostly about the baseball pitcher and four days rest. what people thought of that?

The stress could be well in the same range in baseball and tennis. But the baseball guys seem more common-sensical: using only wooden bats for the pros, giving 4 days rotations to top pitchers, etc.

In this case, the fact that the tennis is an individual sport, where responsibility can't be shared, plays havoc with the players.

Definately agree. Besides, a tennis serve involves a racquet to provide mechanical assistance.

we wouldn't know until that is measured. not sure if any one has reported such measurements.

as far as I know, a racket is heavier than a baseball ball. and it's practically thrown at the ball.

Marius,
Its a commonly accepted fact...im pretty sure someone has tested it. I mean...throw a baseball as hard as you can while trying to keep it accurate. Do that 15x. Now serve as hard as you can while being decently accurate and do it 15x. My arm would feel more tired after the baseball.
