I am curious as to what the tennis scene is like in San Antonio, TX at the 4.5/5.0 level. Is it easy to get pick up games, ladders, leagues or tournaments at that level? Anyone familiar with the area?

I am just curious as there is a chance I that might be moving there.

Thanks!

Lots of tournaments, some with big 4.5 draws. League tennis (USTA) is big there, very competitive. I would say it's a very active scene.

Well about 30 minutes away from San Antonio is the town of New Braunfels, the John Newcombe Tennis Ranch is located there, they do everything from Beginner tennis all the way up to Adults with various different activities. Give them a google on the internet and see what you can get from it. I've been there on a 3 month trip during the summer and it's awesome. Great family and great tennis!!

Thanks for the responses. :)

Great! It's good to hear that the tennis scene there is excellent if I were to end up moving there. I will find out if the move is happening in about2-3 weeks.

I hope you can move up there, New Braunfels is a lovely little town, and the coaches at Newks are awesome. Mitch, Adrian, Nelson and Chris do an amazing job with there programs! go check it out

You will be able to find lots of league play here. There's a good 4.0-4.5 men's league at Alamo Heights Tennis Center. Season is just about to get underway. Pick ups can be found once you get to know some folks. A big area tourney just wrapped up last weekend but you'll have a ZAT upcoming along with a tourney that coincides with fiesta celebrations.

McFarlin Tennis Center is the main public facility located near downtown and other courts are spread out around town particularly in the Northside areas. Several good private courses if you join or know a member like Sonterra or the Tennis Park of Whispering Oaks.

Let me know if you get into town and have any other questions. If I don't have answers I'll know people who will.

Welcome (hopefully)! Let's hit if you come on down!

4.5 is pretty robust here, the 5.0s is slimmer for sure.

Lots of league play and quite a few Major Zone Tournaments between San Antonio & Austin...roughly an hour and a half drive.

Alamo Heights, Blossom, and Sonterea (private club) are the places to check out for your level....not as many players but Fair Oaks Ranch as well.

As stated above the scene in SAT pretty good.........a good place to stop by is First Serve Tennis Shop, Rich one of the best shop owners in the state and can help hook you up with local info - pretty much the "goto" guy in the region.
