The Clay Court Tennis Fan Thread

Two things happened today that made me realize how much I love and how much I missed clay court tennis during the winter.

1. The weather finally warmed up enough here in Pittsburgh for me to hit on some outdoor clay (the best thing about working at a country club: free court access!).

2. Watched most of the Monte Carlo Quarterfinals.

I realized how much I loved the clay court season and clay court tennis in general. The epic rallies, the sliding, the point construction, the athleticism, the momentum shifts, the strategy, the exquisite drop-shots. Everything about playing and watching clay-court tennis is just so unbelievably awesome! So happy that after a long winter of dreary indoor and hard-court tennis, the clay has finally returned. I invite all fellow fans to share their favorite clay-court videos, tips, experiences, and memories!

Djokovic dethroning Nadal at MC

When you get dethroned (after dominating at an event for 8 consecutive years), I think you're never the same again... (well you're not dominating to the same extent at least).

Is it the beginning of the end to Nadal's reign and supremacy on clay?

Then again, he lost MC last year and still won the FO and the other clay masters... so yeah.

Agreed. I absolutely love clay too. And as a 46 year old geezer it would be my preference to never play on hard courts again (see: Gildemeister, Hans). Next year I'm moving to Baja and I'll be building a (synthetic) classic clay court next to my house… until then, just more hard court abuse.

Wimbledon is my favorite part of the season, then the clay court season, then hard courts.

I agree. I also like the schedule - starting with hard courts, moving to clay, then grass, then back to hard and finishing indoors. You don't get too much of the same thing the way it is scheduled.
