Medvev has become a new crowd favorite of the US Open and I don't remember a young player even being as charismatic and playing with the crowd like he does. I know the media tried to build up Grigor but he was not original and too much of a Fed clone. Sascha is not charming enough, Tiafoe does not have confidence yet. Nick Kyrgios got the crowd due to his tennis style but Medvev got them over with his sense of humor, playing the emotions of the crowd and his tennis.

Is this a good sign? Are the fans ready for the changing of the new guard and new fresh faces for the sport.

This match turned out to be a total classic in the end.I really thought Rafa is going to lose in the end.Medvedev nearly pulled Djokovic kind of victory towards Rafa.Drama never left this matxh until the very end.

I think the fans really do like Medevev and they continued to root for him even when he was down a break but putting it in perspective, history was on the line and the fans wanted Rafa to win 19, I think the window might narrow once the young guys feel inspired.

It has nothing to do with changing of the guard. In the end, great competitive tennis wins the hearts and minds of normal people who love the sport. Only in the TTW alternate universe can a large group of people have sadness, regret, and anger after seeing that epic match between two fighters who left it all on the court.

It is matches like that which keep the sport alive.
