The notion that djokovic plays better when crowd is against him

I've seen a lot of people here say that djokovic plays better when the crowd is against him.
Does he play good because the crowd is against him or in spite of it. He said recently he likes to play in italy, serbia and china because the crowd is rooting for him and his results are excellent in those countries. There is also the atp cup this year where the crowd was rooting for djokovic and he played great there.
Personally, i think it is in spite of the crowd and that having the crowd on his side wouldn't impact his game negatively. What are your thoughts?

Based on his reactions in a hostile environment, I would say it fires him up and fuels his anger. Some players play better when they are angry: Rafa, Djokovic, McEnroe etc.
