Ashaway crossfire 17 is the go-to string for this racquet! Kevlar really doesnt break even with this super open pattern and it creates spin like a cheat code. Seriously you do not have to string the PS95s with a fullbed poly @ 15 gauge

I too just bought one of these for Christmas. I added 22 inches of 1/4 inch lead tape to the top half of the hoop. It reaches from 8 o'clock to 4 on the head. I also added about 1.5 inches of silicon in the handle inside the pallet holes. It plays very stable now and solid like a real Pro Staff should. I would say it weighs right at 12.1 ounces strung with 17 gauge Pro Supex Titan syn gut.

Sorry to dog this up but was curious where the "Fan Club" stood at these days. Still in love with this racquet? have you moved onto the black/red one? etc.

For me I have demo'd racquets especially in the "offseason" from end of November till a few weeks ago. And I have found my strokes are so dialed into this racquet (I have the black/red one) that it would be a rough transition for me. So I am still using this racquet. I have four now and have got them matched. So I'm all in also having purchased extra grommets and butt caps for each. Haha.

What are your current thoughts?

RIP to my '14 95s. I don't know what happened to it; one day I picked it up and it had a huge indention at 2. The frame had already started to buckle from the string tension. I finished it off rallying and now it's almost completely separated at 2. I reLly loved that racket but the only ones I can find new cost more than what I paid for that one. So for me, I don't know if I should go with the current 95s or get the 14 95s.

Man this is talk tennis. When you find a racket fan club thread that's more than six months old you can be pretty sure that most of the club's members have moved onto something else by now [emoji1]

I'd say go with the current. They are being discontinued but the ability to find brand new ones for under $120 makes it worthwhile.

And I actually did have one white one and 2 black ones for a while and while the specs were almost identical I preferred the blacks ones and traded in the white one towards a black one.

Haha. So true. Always feels like T.T is the fringes of the tennis community. Strong opinion one way or another and with racquets is so much so. There are 4 guys on my current spring team who use racquets 5 years or older with one having 10 (!!!!!!) of a McEnroe Dublop (the cream, orange, and blueish one) I asked him about it and he said he found what he like and got them cheaper buying them in batches of five somehow and rotates them evenly. Most of his don't even have paint chips. While me and my four PS95s are not that fanatical I can see it.

Broke mine , now playing with RF97 autograph and loving it more than the 95s for basically everything. (Before I bought the RF97, I played with the old Wilson nSix-One Tour 90 for a couple of months and liked the weight of it so decided to go with the Autograph).

I currently have 3 of these and now (after almost one year) I'm getting dialled in with it.
As of now, I've added a leather grip and placed lead tape that goes from 10 to 8 and from 2 to 4 (similar to Wawrinka's).
It feels solid from the baseline, my groundstrokes have improved a lot and also (and especially) on volleys, racket feels very stable at net.
Maybe I'll add a few more grams in the hoop to add some power, as this is the only area that I wish to improve.
What is your currently setup FedLIKEnot?

Does anyone know if the grip has a silicone fill in stock form of this racquet?
Thank you.
I just put in some poster putty to keep the headlight aspects of the racquet when I added lead to the 3 & 9, it has some kinda Styrofoam filler looking stuff which I have to dig out with a screwdriver and knife before putting in the putty.

I am so late with the response sorry ...
All of them have leather grips, and are matched at 9 pts HL and 12.10 strung didn't measure sw cause don't have a machine for that but the app has them with 2 pts among all 4 so I'll take it. As far as strings I have tried all kinds but what works best for me is 4g mains and Wilson "Power" Syn gut crosses strung at 62lbs. I get about 12 hours out of them before they either break or become unbearable.

You still use it? And nice choice in avatar. Haha.

I just posted this on my Instagram but I am have been through two demo cycles in the last 4 months and I have tried everything from the new Pro Staffs, to Blades, and that to the Head Prestige, Speed, and some Babolat frames still nothing sticks so as I posted I am resigned to the fact that this racquet suits my game and strokes well and despite the 95sq in head I am still able to hit a clean ball....

I tried the 95S (black and red), and I had three of them. One of them had RPM Blast 15 @53 pounds, the other 4GS @54 pounds, and the last one with Tour Bite Mains and Revolution crosses (55 & 53). I liked the 4G best.

Just found this stick and I agree 100%. Best racquet for my game. I use the white/red version. Currently strung with Volkl Cyclone but about to try Ultra Cable.
For fun and because TW put them for sale again I bought a regular 95 and it's good also. For some reason I don't like it as much as the 95s though.

4g works very well probably the best full poly setup I used in this frame that is what I have in the one on my ig post, I do prefer a shape poly in the main (my favorite is Cyclone) and Wilson Power Syn Gut cross or Goosen syn gut. I string pretty tight in this frame to control some of that spin.

I have three of this frame one that is brand new, one that is part of the first pair so its pretty beat up no cracks just a lot of paint chips and another that is less than a year old. I have been looking for good quality ones on **** but all there seems to be in a 3/8s is the white ones and they are a tad softer than ones I have ....

Look at am.azon. Not sure for the US but english and german had red and black 4 3/8. I ordered one from german tennispoint.

Have a handful of the 2015 versions coming in the mail. 1 came today and I added 12 grams at 12 o'clock, Wilson leather grip, Tournagrip, and Wilson Champion's Choice. Current specs are 12.2oz, 345SW, and 32.8 balance. Might try it out tonight to see how it compares to the regular 95 (I do miss the gold logos that the 95 has).

Found it a bit unstable and definitely more stiff compared to my 2014 PS95 with similar specs. Also found the string bed a bit erratic at the baseline in comparison. Hmm...

As for stability, it's usual Wilson QC variance. Specs didn't change in between two versions. Lead at 3+9 o'clock resolves this, should resolve erratic string bed as well.
More stiff, this is I believe real, the difference between full graphite and BLX matrix...

That's unfortunate because the racquet lacks any feel and is somewhat uncomfortable compared to the PS95. Is the white/black version any softer compared to the red/black version? Don't think I'll continue using the 95S, unfortunately.

Pro Kennex specifies flex variance +/- 3 RA. Meaning flex can be up to 6 RA units different between the same sticks. Do you think Wilson is any better than this? It's all about what you got in hands, my friend.

It should be mostly about your actual racquets specs and mass distribution and how it turned out. But that's where customization is useful - you less depend upon pure luck of the specimen that actually fell into your hands, you rather customize it to what it was supposed to be by its design.

All I can say is both of mine (both PS95 2014 and PS95s 2015) are comfortable and I don't notice a significant difference in stability - both could use few grams at 3+9 o'clock, I got some lead on both to correct this, and after I'm satisfied with stability of both.

However, PS95 and PS95s have radically different string patterns (16x19 vs 16x15), so they play differently as well by design.

Played last 4 1/2 sets of doubles with PS95s. First time after I played two sets with PS95 I switched to PS95s. Prior to this I struggled with PS95s during a warm up, so I switched to playing a match with some other racquet in a more than one occasion as I couldn't keep the consistency. However after playing a two set match I felt much better. Two days ago I played 3 1/2 sets from the scratch with PS95s and it was better. I paid attention to close racquet's face enough on contact.

So far I can say this is a good doubles choice. I customized it to 352 grams but still it was a bit tougher on defensive situations at the baseline, in which I need to get used to. On all other aspects it was very good. Anyway I think this racquet can be worthwhile especially for doubles or all court game, because it has some all court quality. Volleying with it is good, precise and controlled. But I was very pleased with overall predictability, when you ensure enough closed racquet face (it has to be more than with some tighter pattern as launch angle is higher) balls coming out of string bed have better than expected predictability, so you can benefit from spin even with relatively moderate strokes.

Not sure how many of you are still playing with PS95S, but I wanted to ask if anyone has strung it up with a full bed of natural gut?

I still use this as my primary racquet along with Wilson Six one team customized. No issues with white and red PS 95S - 2014 one. I like a thick 15L gauge poly with slightly higher tension than usual for that extra control which is missing from 16 15. String durability an issue yes but then that gives me an opportunity to try out various strings, lol.

I wouldn't recommend the full bed of Lux as suggested on the 95s. Felt soft when hitting but my shoulder says otherwise this am. It was in the frame when I bought it.

Going to re-string it with Volkl Cyclone 16g @ 48lbs which was my usual setup in my K90's if i wasn't doing the Fed gut/lux hybrid. Many have stated that the 95s breaks strings really quickly so i'll have to see how it goes. I've never been a string breaker.

48 lbs in a normal low powered frame is fine but not on a 16 15 pattern frame. Strings might move and there will be less control. Please up the tension.

As this has been my frame of choice for 5 years I was excited to see this post dug back up but alas ... that said I either use Volkl Cyclone in a full bed at 58 lbs, or Volk V-Torque mains and Wilson Power Syn Gut crosses at 62 lbs. Depending of course on if I was able to get in on a string deal from TW.

For me I need to string tight to dial in control with this frame as with the open pattern it can fly on me. I have tried stringing in the high 40s before but found it unplayable for me and my game at least after a 4 hours or so of play on the frame. I now have three of the white/red paintjob that I rotate through and unless I brake the string a stringjob can last me a month maybe two if I am playing less. I think that is cause of the high tension I start at. So when it settles into a tension after a few hours I can still find it playable as I am rotating through.

Nice. So what's the current tension you are using? I had started at high 40s, then low 50s, mid 50s and now I am thinking of high 50s as control is tough with 16 15 like you said. One thing you didn't mention is the string thickness. I recently ordered Bab hurricane 15L and thick string is the way to go for these frames with ultra open string pattern. I tell you what, it's tough to get 15L thick ones in India.

I use 62 lbs if I am doing a hybrid of syn guy crosses and poly mains. If full poly which I havnt done much of the last year I usually strong at 60 or 58lbs.

As far as gauge I have never used anything other than 16 or 16L.

In the thread best serve volley racquets the six one 95s was mentioned a number of times.

Gino said:

Backhanded Compliment said:
yeah that 6.1 and microgel radical are legit for any such list

I thought maybe I'll put this question up in the 95s user thread aswell.

My confusion is as follows:
1.
In numerous threads there is talk about racquet customization, adding weight to the racquet to make it more stable and give it more plow through. People always mention they love heavy high SW frames for serve and volley. But the 6.1 95s is (relatively) light.
Now you could argue that it is a good platform racquet for serve and volley, but if you look in the '6.1 95s fan club' thread everyone mentions they mention it is PERFECT in stock form and needs no added weight.
Why is that?
(possible reasons could be that the fan club loves the stick that much because it is their preferred spec but I am unsure, would a heavy racquet guy be better off with a stock or customized tot 330 sw 95s)

2.
A different dilemma. People always say: if you serve and volley, the best string choice is a hybrid (for feel and touch). That could be a gut/poly hybrid or poly/multi hybrid.
On the contrary, in the '6.1 95s fan club thread' it is mentioned numerous times and noone dissagreed; that the only string you should play in this frame is full poly (due to spin snapback and breakage).
What is your opinion on this, 6.1 95s for volleying, full poly or no?

Seeing I own a 6.1 95s aswell I was very interested to find out how other people think about these 'confusions'.
What would be your perfect spec / string setup if using the 6 1 95 s.

Better hunt down some grommet sets if you like it that much, pretty sure they’re not widely available now.

I’m a little late, but I’m now in…but I need help.
For those who have experience with this frame (I have the white version) you know that it can chew through strings. However, I didn’t know it would do it SO quickly.
I strung it with solinco hyper g 17 (mains) Tecnifibre x-1 biphase 17 multi (crosses) all 56 pounds.
In less than one hour of practicing serves, the x-1 is already fraying and getting chewed up.

So…what is the best hybrid setup for this frame?
(I can’t do full poly bc of arm painI also can’t afford gut here in Thailand ).

Ashaway crossfire 17 was mentioned and I can get that here.
I can also get Wilson power SG as a cross as well as anything Mayami.

I can get other strings here as well but don’t have a big assortment readily available.

Go for a super soft all poly set up- Cream, Ghostwire or poly tour air. All of them are softer than a lot of syn guts.
