The Road To Super Bowl LII (02/04/18): I Call Bank at US Bank Minneapolis

It's not too early to start thinking about next year and thanking everyone for a very spirited discussion of NFL'16.

The Combine is in three weeks. Free agency commences on March 9 with a prelude of applying franchise tags next Wednesday. The draft goes on the road to Philadelphia on April 27-29. All key dates for your teams and their plans.

No surprise that Cleveland has the most cap space while Dallas and my NYJ must clear space before signing ANY free agent.

Get on board for the long ride to the not frozen tundra of Minneapolis next February. Hope it's as interesting as this past year!

A lot of people questioning the OT rules today, saying what if Atlanta got the ball. Also giving passes to the Falcons defense (gave up 31 unanswered and TD drive in OT) because of how many plays they were on the field and how tired they were.

It's overtime of a Super Bowl. No excuses.

"All right, gentlemen, this is 'heads' and this is 'heads'. New England, you make the call."

Well if Matt Ryan doesn't take that sack and they don't get flagged for holding, then they probably kick a field goal and put the game out of reach...

I agree. I never counted the Patriots out for 2 reasons, firstly they have Brady. Secondly they dominated possession all game (Atlanta had only run something like 30 plays on offense going into the 4th).

Controlling possession was always going to be key, the Patriots did it better and allowed them to dominate at the end.

The Patriots know how to win big games, the Falcons thought it was a sprint. So this toss of a coin nonesense is a load of rubbish imo.

Do a Federer, like in AO 2017. Tom must beat Eli in Minny at SB LII. ¿Tiempo de papá? Shouldn't be the main concern by the looks of it. Yeah baby, yeah!

Exactly, Falcons thought they had the game won. They weren't ready for a 5 quarter fight.

I predict a Raiders Cowboys SB!

Always wait till after free agency and the draft before making my early season predictions personally, but as things stand, that would be a great game!

I think it's between the Raiders and Patriots for the AFC, maybe Denver if they get a QB in free agency.
NFC would be Cowboys, Falcons should be better, maybe Packers if they are more active in free agency.

Thats my early take.

NYG will be good if QB Rafael Manning can play every game like it's the playoffs and a chance to get to vanquish the GOAT Roger Brady. Vamos!

First big coaching moves affect the Falcons, Rams and 49ers:

Ax expected Kyle Shanahan moves to SF as HC. However, he does not take QB coach Matt LaFleur with him, who instead moves to the Rams as OC under young HC Sean McVay. This will be a reunion from their days together in Washington under daddy Shanahan.

Finally, Steve Sarkisian is moving a couple hundred miles east from Tuscaloosa to become OC for the Falcons. It's a surprise move as Sarkisian has just one year experience in the NFL as QB coach for the Raiders in '04 and carries baggage off the field with his recent bout with alcoholism. His QBs at Oakland that year (Kerry Collins/Rich Gannon) threw for 4000 yards, good for eighth place in the league.

Totally out of character...The Hoodie on The Tonight Show with Fallon and Edelman was absolutely hilarious..."We do a lot of that (meditation) on the sidelines." as he grabs Jules' hand!

Totally in character at the parade today..."No days off!" chant after stating in an interview that the Pats are starting 5 weeks behind most of the league. Already thinking about Opening Thursday Night Football at Foxboro. Will it be Atlanta? I would prefer QB12...AR vs TB!

Patriots would win in a blowout. Packers outside of Rodgers the offensive line and Nelson are just not a good team

Patriots will have about 60 plus of cap space. I am hoping they resign hightower. I still like the pats with the raiders second and maybe the broncos if they get romo. I am still not a believer in the steelers or ravens. Chiefs are what they're. Bengals are losers.

Romo won't last into November if Denver doesn't fix what let them down in '16...the OL.

Oakland has the best chance to establish themselves as a perennial contender for the Super Bowl, not coincidentally because they are the team with the best OL in the conference. Just win, baby...hopefully by staying in Oakland.

If asante samule doesn't drop that interception in 2007. If wes welker holds on to the ball in tne second game against the giants. Ifs ifs ifs. Alot of ifs. The pats where their own worse enemy by fumbling and turning the ball over. They ran almost 100 plays. That's crazy.

That's a good shout! Opening game tends to be against a team who went deep into the playoffs, someone like the Packers or the Chiefs would be my guess.

Wiki page already lists Atlanta as the visiting team and it'll probably be a SB rematch like last year. Here's why...NE's home schedule includes their three divisional rivals plus Houston, KC, Atlanta, Carolina and the LA Chargers. Of the four '16 playoff teams there, the rematch would be the sexy choice.

Certainly would! No complaints from me if that's what they go with.

Only doubt I have would be if they wanted to keep that game for later in the year, plus would they go with SB rematches on back to back opening nights? They could well do, but I wouldn't rule out the Chiefs just yet (AFC rival, had a tight playoff game year before last). Both would be good games.

McShay 2.0 Mock Draft was released today...consensus #1 to Cleveland remains TA&M DE Myles Garrett but he shuffled Deshaun Watson all the way up to #2 for the 49ers.

McShay has seven CBs going in 1R and, of course, NYJ taking one at #6. I have two words for you, MacCagnan: Dee Milliner!

Patriots look to next year, file for 'Blitz for Six' trademark
Darren Rovell ESPN Senior Writer

If the New England Patriots are satisfied with their fifth title, they sure aren't showing it.

On Feb. 7, just two days after winning Super Bowl LI for their fifth championship, the Patriots filed to trademark the phrase "Blitz for Six," hoping to use it on clothing -- including hooded T-shirts, of course. Coach Bill Belichick is known for wearing Patriots hoodies.

And last Tuesday, the same day that Belichick chanted "No Days Off" to the crowd at the team's victory parade, the Patriots also filed to trademark that phrase.

The Patriots have been among the more aggressive organizations in terms of filing to protect phrases they endeavor to bring to market. The week before the Super Bowl, the team filed to trademark "Ignore The Noise."

I think Tom and Bill just wanted to make 6 championships out of 8, to deflate MJ's mountain of an ego overflowing through his HOF enshrinement speech [the GOAT turned it bitter and petty on that day].:D

There shall be no urine-coloured towel waving a sevenburgh or an eightburg in the near future.:)

P.S. LeBron James: 'Not 2, not 3, not 4, not 5, not 6, not 7' titles... What's the matter with these guys not doing it one step at a time, like TMFrédéric going for SW#19?

Two separate 3-peats is still the team gold standard but 5+ titles at 4 of 5 slams is the individual gold standard.:p:D

The state of Texas is considering a "bathroom" bill similar to the NC law that resulted in the NBA and NCAA pulling extra-season competition from the state. Houston and Dallas may have quite a while to wait to host another SB if the NFL plays hardball like the other two organizations.

NFL GMs must engage in collusion by agreeing not to offer NE and The Hoodie a 1R pick in exchange for Jimmy G. Resist the itch, even if you desperately need a QB! Otherwise, the Rozelle Trophy will take up permanent residence in Foxboro.

From my perspective as a NYJ fan, he's off limits but I'd like him but not for a #6 overall. The Hoodie would never trade him within the division so he's not headed to Buffalo either.

A NFC landing spot is more probable and Chicago fits the needs category but a #3 overall is way too high a price. The other NFC possibilities could be NO or Arizona to serve as an aging legend's backup/successor in the first year and starter for 2018. They draft at #11 and #13, sandwiching the Browns second 1R pick. The Hoodie has a soft spot in his heart for Cleveland from his first spot as NFL HC so that's an option too. I say "yes" to those but only if they swap 1R slots, not straight up.

The latest mock I saw had Cleveland taking Garrett first, then trading pick 12 for Jimmy G (the theory was he's a better, more NFL ready QB than any of the others in this draft).

That sounds pretty solid, although maybe the price is too high (your idea of flipping 1st round picks as part of the trade sounds a lot more reasonable).

I like the Watson upside better than the other two draft QB projects. I hope he winds up somewhere that he can learn slowly under a legend, like but a bit shorter in process that AR12 underwent in Green Bay...maybe the aforementioned Arizona/NO scenarios or even in LA with Rivers/Chargers.

I agree. Before he went off in the National Championship game nobody really knew where he would go, a lot seemed to have him around the 2nd round as a project (Chiefs, Saints and Cardinals were touted as the best fits).

Now he's up there and likely to go top 10 it seems. Out of the teams picking in the top 10 i'd say Buffalo are probably the best fit (similar to Tyrod Taylor, cheaper, potentially more upside, won't be too much change to what they do offensively etc..). I have a feeling he will go before they pick at 10, though.
