dimitrov, davydenko and zverev winning this shows how meaningless it is. none of them have ever sniffed a slam.

in case if you don't know, there are ATP points awarded for non-slam tournaments as well.
and again, in case if you are unaware, there are rules how the points are calculated. So, a player that theoretically plays 40 tournaments per year, won't have advantage over someone who plays only 15 tournaments per year, but goes deep and wins 2 slams.

That is not fair at all, it creates a double standard by which 2 players, despite having made the same merits, do not receive the same benefit.

Ever heard of the scenario where a player wins more points and still loses the match? That's even worse than the scenario you have presented.

Been that way forever, which is just one of the reasons I have never been a fan of the event. Gotta have some way to try and make it exciting, and mitigate ties.

Djokovic's group includes Berrettini who depends too much on his serve, and it has 38 years old Federer whom Djokovic completely owns now. Djokovic would probably find it harder to play in Nadal's group, he lost a few times to all players there.

World cup and KO, and penalty shootouts = lots of luck
Football leagues = Less luck

Football leagues = More boring, as the champion can be declared champion before the competition is over, sometimes it's really obvious who will win several weeks before, the same two teams will always win, etc.

World cup akin to WTF, hence luck is a factor, but it's exciting.
