The rules of the ATP finals are completely unfair

or players who play the most tournaments of the season mixed with the best players.

dimitrov, davydenko and zverev winning this shows how meaningless it is. none of them have ever sniffed a slam.

in case if you don't know, there are ATP points awarded for non-slam tournaments as well.
and again, in case if you are unaware, there are rules how the points are calculated. So, a player that theoretically plays 40 tournaments per year, won't have advantage over someone who plays only 15 tournaments per year, but goes deep and wins 2 slams.

blablavla

G.O.A.T.
they WON A SLAM with 127 other people. not a best of 3 round robin tourney with 7 other players. lmao

it just happens that to with the year end final, one needs at least 4 wins over top 8 players of the season.
can you show me last slam where the winner defeated 4 opponents from top 8 of the ranking?

If Djokovic wins 2 matches in his group he can classify. If Nadal wins 2 matches in his group, he can fail to classify.

That is not fair at all, it creates a double standard by which 2 players, despite having made the same merits, do not receive the same benefit.
Ever heard of the scenario where a player wins more points and still loses the match? That's even worse than the scenario you have presented.

But rules are rules. Tennis isn't fair. Sport isn't fair( no pun intended xD). Life isn't fair!

You are actually comparing defeating guys in RR who might be playing poorly in Bestof3 to playing guys in slam R16, QFs, SFs in BESTOF5 who are in form...

Amazing.

That's almost as silly as comparing amateur tennis with pro tennis.

I'll ignore you again, till the symbols you type will start bearing meaning.
top 8 players playing poorly in Best of 3.
did you ever consider to become comedian? I'm sure you'd be making good money.

For those "symbols" to make sense literacy is of prime importance.

And I am sure you will ignore me every time I give you an irrefutable fact.

Never considered becoming a comedian but I am considering a career in Law, considering how many arguments I win here, arguing with you...

so far you struggle big time with facts.
without simple facts it's impossible to bring irrefutable facts.
and about arguments... it's again impossible to win them without bringing facts for starter. but you can live on in your dreams where you win arguments with irrefutable arguments.

Well, it would be...

... but has been artificially made relevant by awarding the champ up to 1500 points.

Which KINDA affects the rankings...

I am really sorry for people that don't know what a proper indoor season and tennis is. Also, the YE tournament has been like that for, what, forever now, so yes, it was "made" relevant.

So the logic is "whatever lasts long must be great". Kinda like the dictatorship in North Korea?

The Davis Cup had a huge tradition. According to your logic, it is almost blasphemous they destroyed it. Do you agree?

I'm also blown away by this logic.
already feel sorry for your customers after you will graduate your law degree. hopefully it's not gonna be touching criminal cases, where innocent people could go to jail after such "logic" application

Been that way forever, which is just one of the reasons I have never been a fan of the event. Gotta have some way to try and make it exciting, and mitigate ties.

So blown away that you neglected to answer the question...

A team of forensic experts is working at putting you back together so you might answer the question.

Unless this answer blows you away too...

I don't need to answer the question to point out the ridiculousness of what you wrote, but if you insist, my position on the DC situation is well known: it is a disaster what happened to it.

What kind of BS is that? Even Djokovic fans admitted that Nadal has the harder group. I mean, even @NoleFam admitted it and that tells something. Djokovic's group includes Berrettini who depends too much on his serve, and it has 38 years old Federer whom Djokovic completely owns now. Djokovic would probably find it harder to play in Nadal's group, he lost a few times to all players there.

This comment aged really well.

So you evade yet another question...

That's another way of admitting defeat.

Just remember to repeat this in case Nadal beats Fed and then wins the whole thing. Remember-- the YEC operates under a double standard and is 'completely unfair.' ;)

The only thing I find unfair is regardless of whoever moves on to the SF as the top seed in group Agassi (Tsitsipuss or RAFA) has to play tomorrow after a grueling match. Meanwhile Timmy and Ol' Rog got a day off to kick their feet up and relax.

So how does Rafa get in? Or is he in already?

If anything I think this match upped Nadal's chances in a match with Federer. His needed this extra bit of momentum of winning a tough match where you have to up your game.

Swiss press reports he went to the zoo with his kids and Mirka. He's not practicing on off days at the O2, just as he didn't practice off days last year in London. Maybe at 38, he should do that everywhere once he gets accustomed to the surface.

I don't understand the issue of fairness. Win all of your matches and you go through to the next round. What's the query here?

He's world number 1 for the rest of the year, and won these 2 epic battles against 2 of the brightest prospects in the game. Be happy. Getting out of that group against not 1, not 2, but 3 of the hotter players of the fall season was always going to be a big ask considering how relatively little he's played, and the fact he'll probably go out on a technicality ain't nothing to sniff at.

Not really. The WTF format is the same we see in most sports. World Cup, for example.
Yes, and that's my point.

World cup and KO, and penalty shootouts = lots of luck
Football leagues = Less luck

World cup and KO, and penalty shootouts = Lots of excitement coming from less predictability, possible underdogs winning, everything coming down to a single intense moment, etc.

Football leagues = More boring, as the champion can be declared champion before the competition is over, sometimes it's really obvious who will win several weeks before, the same two teams will always win, etc.

World cup akin to WTF, hence luck is a factor, but it's exciting.

Football leagues akin to my proposal, hence luck is less of a factor, but it will be boring as hell, as you will know the champion several rounds in advance.

Most people don't seem to realize how big a factor luck really is in sports
The only way to avoid luck is to play 99999999999999999999999999999999 matches a year, but since that's impossible, there's always the chance something improbable happening will have a HUGE amount of relevance in the outcome of a sport season.

Nadal lost first match, in normal tournament he would have been out immediately.

Wtf rules give Rafa chance to stay in it, so what are his fans complaining about?
