The top 3 are completely immune to Murray

You almost feel sorry for the hapless Scotsman putting in the effort to progress since you know that even if he were to reach a stage where he would meet a top 3 player - they outclass him by such a margin that, whether it be a semi-final or a final - he always gets completely embarrassed. There is no shot he has that can even remotely challenge Federer, Nadal or Djokovic, and whilst each of their games are completely water-tight, Murray has glaring technical errors (2nd serve, forehand, volleys, overhead).

Murray is a sort of whipping boy to the big 3 - him being in the top 4 (and somehow managing to make the semi's on occasion) always guarantees one of the big 3 to have a very easy passage to the final without being tested at all. The less-tired guy will have a distinct advantage over the whoever had to play Federer.

I wish there was an actual big 4 where the 4th member genuinely had a chance of beating his top 3 opponent in the semi-final. It would make the finals of grandslams much more equal and exciting.

Shut up. Who just beat djokovic? Who won the 2008 US open semi, and 2010 and 2011 aus open semis? Not you.

It's weird that Murray only ever faces Nadal in semi's. Obviously if he had faced Federer and/or Djokovic in a semi as well they would have battered him.

Both of his wins against Nadal have HUGE asterisks over them as Nadal was burnt out in his 2008 US Open having over-applied himself in the Olympics just before, and obviously he could barely move in the 2010 AO due to acute knee tendonitis. I don't know what you're talking about with the 2011 AO - but Murray faced FERRER there.

Ok. I have one question. Can you give every one a reason why you hate murray. I hate djokovic because he is an arrogant jerk who's humor is childish.

I don't feel sorry for him, but, yes, let's keep talking like this....just in case one of his entourage reads in here.
Keep the angry Scot humble and hungry.
Vamos Muzza!

I'm pretty sure there's nothing wrong with his volleys. Also, doesn't Djokovic sometimes have troubles with the overhead? And don't Fed and Nadal's backhands have some technical drawbacks? Even if Nadal's is a great shot, it's still not on par with Murray's. Not to mention that gameplay isn't just a function of who has the most technically sound strokes.

As to your larger claim, which is that Murray's weakness (when he reaches the semis) automatically gives his opponent an advantage in the finals...

1. obviously endurance/restedness aren't the only, or even the most important factors in a thing like a grand slam final. the general idea seems to be nothing but mental strength really matters in that situation.
2. Murray can be beaten easily and still manage to physically push his opponent. That is, a match that is three sets can still involve plenty of running and grinding.
3. But even then, the break between the semis and finals (in most scenarios) ensures that this is irrelevant. Except in the most extreme cases, which would mean hugely tough-fought (and in the strongest case: long) Murray semis...but for that to be the case, we'd have to admit Murray is somewhat of a challenge to these top 3, no?

Murray is irritating, but he shouldn't be sloshed like that. And besides, wasn't there a point when people thought Djokovic was just the whipping boy for Fed and Nadal? Or at least Fed? The point is: you never KNOW.

Murray seems very focused on knocking the hell out of these guys. In Cinci, he was dying to get Djoker and unfortunately Djoker was burned out a bit but Murray was ready to go. Despite a few "hangover" matches and rust (Montreal) Murray has had a pretty darn good year.

Aussie Open finals, he mailed it in but still he got to the finals
Monte Carlo - loses to Nadal in 3 sets in the semis on clay here
Rome - loses to Djoker in 3 sets on clay and that was prob one of the best matches of the year, Murray had a chance to win that match.
FO semis - loses to Nadal in 3 sets in an over 3 hr match, and keep in mind that Murray had ankle tendon problems in this slam
Queens - beats Murray and Tsongo en route to win
Wimby semis - mental breakdown but still lost to Nadal and I think he may have learned something here
Montreal - rust v Kevin Anderson
Cinci - wins it and would have crushed anyone in the finals

I think Murray at the USO wants to play one of these big 3 and blast them. It's similar to the same feeling I get that Fed wants to get to Djoker in the semis.

Wow.Is this a Murray bashing thread or what?Sure he has his issues but I think they are all mental. He chooses to powder puff his second serve and roll his forehand when under pressure. We have all seen how well he CAN hit these shots when he believes. All mental, not technical.

Honestly I don't really know how to explain it... I thinks it's like someone who always disagrees with people and is being a smart alek or jerk?

Against Cilic and Ferrer? :p

Both top 10 players back then!

The OP keeps on posting these silly troll threads about Murray. The best thing is to ignore him. You can't reason with a troll. They just like to get you mad with their stupid comments. Don't take the bait!

This must be the most hackneyed and half-assed rebuttal on these forums. The "because you can't do it, don't judge" refute makes as much sense as the Djokovic son of god thread. Do I need to make movies to know what movies suck? No. Do i need to be a writer to know when a book is terrible? No. And do I need to be a professional athletic to make an opinion or analysis, no.

For the most part I agree with the OP. It's harsh but true, Muz cannot keep it together mentally against the top 3 in a slam. And the only time when he beat Nadal at a slam was when he was playing agressive and fearless tennis. These days he tries too hard to be agressive or doesn't try hard enough.

Just look at what happened at Wimbledon against Rafa, played ridiculous tennis for a set and a half. On the verge of a break and loses his head after a fail smash. Or both Australian Open finals he was in. Murray is definitely a capable challeger to the top three...outside slams. But during the big stages, the guy loses any drive or fight against the top 3.
