The two big 3 matches we have not had, your pick

So as far as I can see the only two matches we have not had in the majors among the big 3 so far as, Djokovic v Federer at Wimbledon and Nadal v Federer at the US Open.

Twice we were just a point away from seeing a Nadal Federer Us Open final and last year we were just one set away from the Djokovic v Federer Wimbledon Semi Final.

To me both matches have an appeal the Wimbledon match because while Nadal was the defending Wimbledon champion when Djokovic beat him, Federer gas without doubt been the greatest grass court player of the last 10 years and one of the best ever, even though he has struggled on the surface in recent times relatively speaking I think some of the rallies in a Federer v Djokovic match would be very intersting indeed.

Nadal v Federer at the US Open to me would be amazing on the basis that although the court has slowed down in recent times it is still the fastest court we have in the majors and probably the one that would favour Roger the most against Rafa, his record against Nadal in the hard courts is still poor but his recent form ie the win at IW suggests suggest it could be a place where Roger gets another major win over Nadal potentially but the best of 5 factor still gives the edge to Nadal. I just feel it would be ashame for their great rivalry if that was the one venue that they end up never playing because it will always leave us with a few questions that are never answered.

If you can only have one match Djokovic v Federer at Wimbledon or Nadal v Federer at US Open which would it be and why?

Rafa v Fed at USO would be great.

USO is still fast compared to most surfaces on tour, so Fed can still put up a good fight and Fed does bring out the best in Rafa. I also think Fed still has what it takes to beat Rafa at the slams, just that it's getting increasingly harder.

I'd say the match could be a classic.

I think Fed would be the heavy favourite for any Federer-Djokovic Wimbledon match. The grass is slower than before, but it's still grass.

Rafa v Fed at USO.
They've played at the other three - this completes the rivalry and the fact it's on a faster court is a bonus.

It's all about timing. Many years went by before Rafa could solve the US Open puzzle and (for the sake of the H2H) he was lucky to avoid Federer during that time. To some extent the same could be said for his lifelong Wimbledon ambitions, although he did run into the Federer road-block in the process.

Nowadays it would be a 50/50 toss up (the US Open match), with an aging and yet highly capable Federer pitted against a past-his-prime hard court warrior suffering a crisis of confidence. I'd love to see it happen. Maybe we'll get lucky in 2012.

amazing that we've never seen federer and nadal play at the us open despite two years in a row that it was just one point away from materializing. i hope they meet there this year, whether in the finals or semis.

but now that djokovic is the wimbledon champion, i would also be interested to see him play roger there. fortunately, we get two chances this year, with the olympics being held there as well (although i think that would only be best of three).
