Tips for one handed backhands

During summer I was playing a lot with a good friend of mine. He is not a tennis player but a track and field guy but he can get the ball back with his forehand. During our practise sessions I played one handed backhands just for fun ( I play 2hb otherwise). A guy who was watching us told me to turn my grip more to the left so I got the hand behind the grip. I don’t know what the grip is called but it really helped. After 5 or 10 minutes I played pretty good one handed backhands for the first time of my life.

Some weeks after that I coached three gentlemen in their forties. They were all crazy about sports but hadn’t played a lot of tennis. I taught them to get their hands behind the grip as well and it helped them a lot. So even if you haven’t played a lot of tennis it is still possible to play with the real pro grip on one handed backhands. The spin and control you get makes you feel like a pro.

You mean the heel pad behind the grip? That's the basic eastern backhand grip.

I'm guessing since with two handed backhand grips, the dominant hand is usually in a slight forehand grip, you were using that before. One handed backhands pretty much require continental or further to the left of continental.
