warped bancroft billie jean king tournament - $3

well, how about the warped bancroft billie jean king tournament? that sounds like it might be collectible!

For $3, you cannot really go wrong. It is still for good for displaying in someone's living room or storing it in the basement or the garage (in Virginia's case).

pshulam, my racquets are not "stored" in the garage - they are displayed there - and I might add, displayed in style! :)

Once I get a professional photographer organised, I'll post some nice pics for you. Why professional? Because I want all the windows, power and light switches edited out.

Thanks for the correction. The climate must be quite mild in your area. It's no way to store (not to mention display) rackets in the garage during the winter in our area (Minnesota, USA) as the temperature often dips below freezing.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing the professional photos of your collection.

Yes, we have a very temperate climate here in Auckland. Added to that, our garage is actually part of the house, like an additional room and if we didn't keep our car in there, could actually be used as a rumpus or games room. It's a double garage too, so it's very large, has a back door leading to the garden, a huge automatic roller door and three steps leading up to the main part of the house.

Virginia, I do professional photography work as a side job to my "normal" career. If you are willing to pay my airfare from San Francisco, I'd be happy to photograph your collection ! :) LOL

Well, that would sure be nice, retrowagen. :)

If you ever decide to visit New Zealand though for a holiday, you'll have to come and visit. I've already had jimbo333 stay over, on his way back home to England after going to the Australian Open. It was a just a one nighter (no comments please), but we managed to fit in a swim at the beach with my grand-daughter, dinner, a three hour stint in the said garage (I swear he looked at every single racquet!) and next morning, an hour's tennis, before we took him to the airport.

As a result of that meeting, we've just completed a very successful trade of three racquets each - with jimbo's extensive collection of 200G's, it seemed I had one version (of the 18-20 out there) that he didn't have! Knowing jimbo, as we all do, he simply had to have that version, right? :)

Retro, I recommend a visit, if you get the chance to go to New Zealand!

Thanks again for the racquet trade Virginia, really happy thanks:)

I've actually just come back from the French Open, had an amazing time, photos to follow probably next week!

It's on my shortlist of places to go, before I get too much older. I must visit family in South Africa and friends in Perth before I can go to NZ for some trekking and tennis playing, however.

Hurry up retrowagen, South Africa awaits! And once you get to Perth, we're only a few hours away! :)

Yes, thank you... First I must fly a few miles to Germany and England from my home here in California, to do some photography there for a book I am writing. Then, the antipodean itinery can be put forward. Might be another year or so...

Whereabouts in NZ do you live, Virginia? North, or South Island?

Virginia

North Island - just a little bit north of the Auckland Harbour Bridge. Near a beach - 7 minutes walk only. :)

What book are you writing?

Very nice indeed. My girlfriend at university back in the early 90's was an charming expat who had spent a couple years in Christchurch. Loved NZ. Always wanted to visit there with her; sadly never did.

My book is a restoration/details/authenticity guide pertaining to the 1955-1974 Volkswagen Karmann-Ghia.

Yeah, I did win it. If it's no good, I'll just string it up with some gut and muck around with it. If it's actually worth something, might hold onto it (until the urge to play with it takes over). Getting it shipped to Australia.

Depends on the year of the Kramers. Any Kramer is a good buy if in good shape. Early Kramers where made by Spalding and were identical to the Pancho Gonzales Sigs. Once Wilson brought production in house they started spinning off lots of "Signature" frames that were all Kramers with different paint/wood inlays. Stan Smith, Chris Evert, etc. Autographs were just Kramers with different looks. All are worth collecting. The lady frames are slightly lighter, with smaller grips in many cases.
