Heres the Juice:

Group stage, 1st and 2nd advance to an elimination bracket.
Three players are tied with 2W and 1L. So whats the ITF and/or USTA ruling for these ties? I assume its w-l sets difference, then w-l games and then direct result.
But here is the Curveball: one of the players tied, won a match up 4-3 in the 1st set and retirement (opppnent retired due to injury), so what should the score be?????
Thanks for your help!!!!!

Here's that they do in the ATP finals:

"d) If three (3) players are tied, then:
If three (3) players each have one (1) win, a player having played less than all three (3) matches is automatically eliminated and the player advancing to the single elimination competition is the winner of the match-up of the two (2) players tied with 1-2 records; or
Highest percentage of sets won; or
Highest percentage of games won; or
The player positions on the FedEx ATP Rankings as of the Monday after the last ATP Tour tournament of the calendar year.
If (i), (ii), (iii) or (iv) produce one (1) superior player (first place), or one (1) inferior player (third place), and the two (2) remaining players are tied, the tie between those two (2) players shall be broken by head-to-head record."

Nice.... still I guess I should look up an ITF ruling on this.

If the number of points is equal for three (3) or more players/teams, the following
criteria shall determine the final standings;
1. The percentage of sets won of sets played against all players/doubles
teams in the group,
2. If, after this calculation, only two players/doubles teams remain tied, the
result in the head-to-head match played between the two
players/doubles teams will be used to break the tie
3. The percentage of games won of games played against all players/doubles
teams in the group
4. If, after this calculation, only two players/doubles teams remain tied, the
result in the head-to-head match played between the two
players/doubles teams will be used to break the tie
5. If there are still players/doubles teams that remain tied, then the World
Individual ranking points of the players/doubles teams used for seeding in
the event will be used to break the tie*.
6. If there are still players/doubles teams that remain tied, then drawn by
lot.

So.... anyone have a clue on what the official score should be when a player wins due to their opponent retiring mid match????

I'm clear now that the criteria should be, % sets won/sets played, then head to head (If only two players stand tied), then % games won/games played, THEN head to head (if two players stand tied).

But how should a match be sanctioned if a player has one match Won due to retirement? Particularly, in this case, a player is all tied up w two other players because he won a match up 4-3, and his opponent retired due to injury. My specific questions are:
1. If he won 4-3 and ret., does it count as one set won, 4 games won, and 3 games lost?

I would think so.

This is why percentage of games/sets won is better than number of games/sets won. Using percentage shouldn't advantage or disadvantage that person too much.

According to USTA, all games that have not been played and would be needed to complete the match should be awarded to the winner, i.e.:
Player wins due to retirement while up 4-3 first set, final official score should be 6-3 6-0

But thats USTA, not sure what ITF would say about it.
