What makes me laugh about this is look at the picture further down it says "Mrs D'Mello is seen here with one of the cheetahs just before the attack"
I think it's sad but then why would you even risk getting in a cage with one of these animals your asking for it woman

A couple of our friends have done this in SA (he's Africaans she's from the UK), they have a nice picture of there 3 year old boy (at the time) petting a Cheetah. Something I would never do, especially with my kids, just bloody stupid.

yeah it's too risky, i'm not being sexist but I can understand if males do it as I think they are more capable of handling themselves then women.

FA Cup final coming alive! Have Liverpool left it too late?

Unfortunately they did. I do think the pressure will be on on Dalglish big time next season, and not least for comments like '“I think people should take an intelligence check. It’s not true that you should only look at the league table,” and a host of so-so signings.

Dave,

I keep trying to get a response from you on the other thread re the Hammers... are you feeling confident? I definitely want you lot up in the Prem next season.

All,

I maybe deluding myself, but I'm living in hope now that the three weeks of rain could finally be coming to an end and some tennis might actually be possible.:)

The amount of sand i had in my shoes after our match!!! Stupid East Dorset. We won, i am happy to say but i am now absolutely shattered ! SPPP is holding up well i like it :) I think MSV focus hex is next up on the list will be stringing it up tomorrow. Topspin Cyber Flash is out bit too squishy for my liking.

Dear Ash......

Come join our club up north
Where the sun shines daily
But does not penetrate the wall
Of cumulus nimbus mainly.

Below our feet the joy of Astro
Come rain or shine
Always ready to roll
It may bounce high it may bounce low
They say that's fine
I don't think so.

Politics politics forever our friend
Belligerent bullies take care to tend
Unruly rulers
Ill custodians alike
take pride in their nonsense
picking bad sides.

So come share your thoughts
Let common sense avail
No buddy orientation
Chasing our tail.

Sweet tennis galore
From one who knows
Put me in the right team
Before I come to blows.

Sounds like it hasn't improved since I was there last......I'm not a fan of astro, even when it's hard and a bit old. Glad you won though.......had a bit of a row with a team from there once........;-)

Why on earth we can't play league matches at the weekend eludes me!

Go on.....

Meags, I thought you were bludgeoning your way into the first team?

A team.....
we have two stalwarts as No1's, very good players who have been playing first division stuff for a long time. We had two ringers last year and thankfully they cant play for coaching reasons (not legit reasons!) which means as it should be these places are available for paying members. One player, a very talented lad didnt turn up last week, his partner is guarenteed a place cos he is deemed better than everyone else yet he never seems to play anyone else. Third pair are father and son, a reliable father and his young son who has been pushed from the D to the A without winning a match to my recall. It seems they dont want to lose him to another club, he's young and very talented, yes but he loses his head very easily.
B team
No1 pair have played together for a while but one is seriously lacking in match practise and has lost a lot of form, was always stable at best, now hmmm! Good pair No2's but never win. Third pair regularly win. My gripe here is I was told this is where I was playing this year due to my form by B team captain, he's new to the job and during discussions the first couple of weeks Ive been placed in the C. Not a biggie its still good tennis level but I found out by C team captain that Im not playin with last years partner, Ive been replaced by someone better (his nephew), even tho we won 6 outa 7 end of season....which leaves me down the pecking order to two players in the C who have never beaten me and a load in the B who rarely beat me in match practise.....Also nephew jumped to the B this week which effing riled me, not cos he isnt good, he is, I just see it as undeserved.

Some of the hypocritical stuff about 'proving yourself' etc seems unreal. Of course I want to play as high as I can but its very difficult, I started playing tennis 6 years ago and Ive improved immensely, they dont like that, only youngsters are allowed to do that, it equals potential.

I added an ode to you Ash as I remember you said you stand back from team play and pick teams on merit/pairing potential etc. I wish our coach did that and it was all done professionally. Match practise is a joke, I mean how can you have players turn up for the first match of the season, not having played for six months???

I know it happens all over the place. Im not just thinking about me, Im just being honest to what I have seen pre season and what would benefit the teams. If it carries on B, will get relegated again (same team), A, will struggle to stay in top division, the other teams are strong and will be up there for promotion. Tbh tho B should be up there trying to get back in div2 with the right pairings.....

Its all ****e, just need to play, win and get on with it.......

League is 6.30 Friday nights around here. Given that you can be playing over an hour away, it's virtually impossible.

On the other hand, doesn't look like it will affect me this year. Meaghan may suffer shocking team selection - I don't even know who is picking the teams! There is no fixture list up, no indication of trials or practice. I'm assuming they've decided it'll be a closed shop this year. Good luck to them with that: filling 5 teams every week needs a pretty large player base.

Perhaps you could go back to your old sticks and commission Meags to do a Babolat paintjob on them?

No problem with the rackets - I demo'd them for around 1 month. I think its the fact that I am now playing at a high level 2/3 times a week on top of work, coming back from a shoulder injury and also using a slightly small grip all equals bad things !!

Finally got my replacement grips on the way so hopefully the grip problem should be solved.

Doing strengthening exercises for my arm at the moment but i only dislocated it 2 months ago so i am quite happy :)

Not bad cheers man, just got exams left now! Stayed local and go to Keele!

I also went to Keele. What's the tennis like there? I didn't take up the game until years after I graduated, which was 16 years ago so things may have been different then (has it really been that long? where has my life gone!?),

Did anyone else have a slightly frustrating long weekend tennis wise? Some friends and I got together to play at another friend's house in Hampshire. The best part of the plan was that there is a tennis court on site. We took some Mantis stuff that we had borrowed/cadged/demoed/bought - rackets, strings and balls - because we are all enthusiastic about a new UK brand. We hit for about 30 mins on Sunday afternoon and for about 30 mins yesterday morning before it got too wet. About the most that I can say so far is that the balls are pretty good. That said my principal criterion is their water resistance.

Next Friday I'll be off to Paris to string at the French Open again. I'll be tweeting (@JamiePethick) and blogging (jamiesprostringing.tumblr.com).

On a completely different note, if you're looking for a good beer, seek out Innes & Gunn Rum Finish. Delightful.

I'm currently working my way through a case of Mantis balls, and really like them. They hold pressure very well, don't fuzz up excessively, and are a nice weight. No rain problems for me, as I haven't ventured out from my indoor carpet courts yet!

I've also used the Power Poly and Comfort Synthetic strings. I've come to the conclusion they're a good company.

Nope, no rain problems for me either - it was 30 degrees every day in Turkey!!! Not the best clay i've ever played on but a good tournament and a very nice venue so no complaints!!!

Good luck with taming a pure drive, i always found low tensions was the best for my arm along with the rehab and not being lazy and "arming" the ball too much.(though i'm sure you'd never do something like that)

Just saw somewhere you asked about the Irons, well, i'd rather of gone up ahead of the playoffs but having seen both legs on tv i think it's the best we've played in a long time, a lot will depend on who gets through tonight, they'll be the faves after the demolition job on Cardiff but Birmingham just seem to always do better than us for a few years now....I would rather we hadn't of chucked away all those points from winning positions since Feb that would of seen us be above Reading though!

Hi everyone,
Just moved over to the UK from Australia. I am living in Hampshire at the moment while looking for work. Am also looking for a game of tennis, its been 1 month and Im sure the rust is setting in. I am an ITN 3 standard if that helps and in Australia my rating is 3.2 anyone interested let me know, i can hit in the afternoons/evenings a couple of days a week. Cheers

When I first moved here, none of our team captains ever came out to club nights. Despite other people telling them I was a decent player, none of them would give me a match.

The first match I got to play was a county club tournament where I came straight from a football match and played two sets of mixed. Apparently, after playing 70 minutes as a wing back in a 3-5-2 formation, I'm not too impressive at mixed doubles with a partner I've never met. So, no more matches for another however many months.

Eventually, I got together with a couple of other decent players who, for some reason, were being used rather sparingly and we formed our own team, starting from the bottom. After a couple of seasons, we were in the same league as the B team and beat them pretty easily. So we became the B team. The next couple of seasons, we were in the same league as the A team and even managed to beat them once or twice.

In the end, the A team captain realized I was more reliable than the superstars who flaked out half the time and better than the emergency replacements who always lost to me. So now, I get to play just about any A-team match I'm available for.

My advice: find some other decent disgruntled players and form your own team, beating the others as you make your way up.

Our league runs deep, we alone have 7 teams and there are I think 10 divisions so starting from the bottom is unfeasable....
I played a few games in div2 last year with different partners and the standard is pretty good. It was difficult, I won 1 match with my regular partner.
My problem is C captain has split us up after winning several matches. This imo is about personality, we smile but I dont think he likes me, I question too much.

Yesterday (A) lost again and our coach wasnt happy, complaining that most of his team dont play any games, just matches and expect to be picked week in week out. (B) scraped a win with their No.1's losing again and (C) also scraped a win after being 3-0 up at the turn around managed to squeeze a 4-2 victory. Most of this is down to pairings and picking the ones that work well together, I just think Im getting a raw deal atm.

It will pass, as will my confidence!

Try it Ross, I like the slightly thicker gauge, spin you can generate yourself, a matter of 0.05mm wont matter much but it certainly gives a fuller feel and that is what you may be looking for in your tinnier APD ??

Theres definately something about a no nonsense thicker poly. Ive just strung Pacific Power Pro Black in a full bed @58lbs. Its a 1.25 but feels thicker, very nice solid feel, I know it wont generate quite the funk that my other set ups will but after having a short hit with it, I can hit solidly off both sides without too much fear of it going long and the control feels good along with that. Sometimes the extra **** on the ball with other set ups can cause problems with control and the fact that the ball sits up.... I like it, see how it plays in my next match tmoro....

Starting at the bottom is never unfeasible. It might be boring to work your way up (trust me, I know the boredom) and it might take a long time, but it's feasible. The good thing about it is that you're in complete control over your team selection once you've reached your level, and you'll find others wanting to join you.

Otherwise, as long as others are in control of team selection, all you can do is learn to play and win with any partner you're given (rather than just the ones you think you play best with). Eventually, people will see that you win against opponents that others lose to or you beat pairs from the higher teams in your own club (when it's A vs. B or B vs. C).

The latter is how I made the final jump from B to A. I won sets or even rubbers against the superstars on our A team playing with a partner that none of them rated.
