US Open Series attendance

Lets talk abit about the attendance in USO Series tournaments.

I have seen some matches of Rogers Masters so far. The attendance during afternoon matches was okay, but the night matches attendance was excellent. Almost sold out every evening.

I haven't get to watch the women's matches yet. So how's the attendance in Carson East West Bank Classics?

One of the bloggers at TW said that the attendence at Carson has been awful since all the stars withdrew pretty much. I watched a little of it yesterday and the day session looked bare while the night session with Jankovic looked okay, but not sold out.

It was pointed out during the Carson match of Jankovic vs Petrova that night attendance is better. Seems that is the trend in the US - people prefer to watch at night after a busy day at work. Slighly different from other countries where work can come to a standstill during the day for an interesting match. Schools, colleges, government jobs, even private sector jobs, at a huge cost to the economy.

More night tennis is the key to growing the sport in the US.

Talking about prize money equality... =)

Yeah, i have too realized that the Europeans prefer to watch the matches during the afternoon session, while the night session in European Masters Series attract less crowd. This is totally different from the situation in US Masters Series.

US Open is known for its night crowd.

Rogers Cup is played in Toronto, which presumably has a much larger tennis following than Indianapolis and Cincinnati. And the fact that most of the top dogs played at Rogers Cup helped a lot. Indy was terrible, we'll see what happens at Cincy. Like I said, I don't think those are the places where tennis would elicit much interest.

Cincinnati Masters does have good attendance. Frankly speaking, all the Masters Series events, including Masters Cup has average of more than 100000 people attending. And Miami and Indian Wells attendance range between 280k to 330k people.

WTA Tier 1 events can't compete with ATP Masters attendance. Last year Sony Ericsson WTA Championships in Madrid only attracted about 40k people of attendance while Masters Cup has more than 100k people attending.
