Thats just a rediculous statement. A meteorologist could say there is no rain today while a player is on a court where its misting and saturating the court.
If it were just misting, the players would have continued to play. The problem was that it started coming down heavier which is why the umpires stopped play on all the courts.

Not true. Many actors get injured, even killed on movie sets. Remember Brandon Lee? Many actors do a lot of their own stunts in action movies and get injured. It happens all the time. How many pro tennis players have been killed by a little misting rain? It's the tennis players that are "very protected".

Another rediculous statment. Those are accidents that would have been avoided if possible or known beforehand. Similar to the stabbing of Monica Seles. These players were made to play in dangerous conditions when they were known to be unsafe.

The chair umpires should be suspended.

It was misting when play started. Thats what Nadal was so irritated with. The courts were unsafe from the start.

OK, I can't take seriously someone who keeps misspelling the word "ridiculous".

You don't think the stunts they do in action movies are known to be dangerous beforehand?

No, I didn't. Not at all. I watched the entire episode transpire LIVE on TV. It is YOU who misunderstand how the entire incident took place.

Watch it again. Nadal explained the whole incident. He had not even been taped yet and they where trying to push the players out onto the court. I have not seen anything like that in the many years of watching tennis. They were rushing them out as fast as they could because they knew exactly what the conditions were doing.

Why do you think Rafa got so angry after the interview when he walked onto the court. He realized exactly what was going on. As he said "Its always about the money".

Sorry I dont care about spell check. Life is too short No?

The dangerous stunts in movies are done by expert stuntmen to protect the actors because without the actors you dont have a film.

As if tennis doesn't already have a reputation as a "sissy sport", this whole thing just puts a glaring spotlight right on it. I wonder what football players are thinking about this.

In any case, Nadal was really the only one complaining about it (maybe because he was down 0-3?). What happened is that Nadal was going into the referee's office to discuss this matter when he ran into Murray and asked him if he wanted to tag along, and Murray said why not. Then they ran into Roddick in the hallway and asked if he also wanted to come and he said he had nothing else better to do to kill the time anyway. But Nadal was really the only one that originally had a big issue with this, enough to take the initiative to go and speak to the referee.

That is scandalous. Tennis.com has not distinguished itself on this issue.

Not all stunts are done by the stuntmen. Some actors do their own stunts. How do you think Brandon Lee got killed? Jackie Chan, Tom Cruise, Steve McQueen, and many others do most of their own stunts.

Tennis and football are different sports. They are about as different as you can get. If you get hurt in football and cant perform the game continues. The show goers on so to speak. If a tennis player gets injured.........thats it, you lose.

The comparison of these two sports is laughable at best.

Point is USTA and CBS is greedy not moving the final on sunday to monday. The guy who makes it from the bottom half of the draw will not be in any kind of shape to play the final if he makes it to Sunday without withdrawing. The players should do what Mcenroe said and say I'm not playing unless I get a break or hope for rain on Sunday.

Well put, everyone is a sellout these days.

Sooo how about that some long matches on the bottom half. Hope those guys are ready for some tests tomorrow.

Top players have no say so on when to play their matches. If the final is on Monday it will be because of rain and not statements.

Good one Jack, another over-opinionated moron on this forum, then he hides in the shadows when his brash statements are proved completely incorrect.

Once again you don't know anything, and your only intention is to bash Nadal.

When they started playing, it was Roddick who complained to the chair umpire that the court was unsafe. Carlos Bernardes said that he would suspend the match, if Roddick insisted. Roddick decided to give it a try.

Then Andy Murray stopped playing. Rafa was the last to appeal to the chair umpire and the referee.

You can break all your bones playing on the wet courts and nobody would care. But professional players are too precious for this stupidity. So most probably they will continue playing on the safe courts.

Um...who was the one that first took the initiative to go into the referee's office under the stadium to complain about playing? It was Nadal. I saw the whole thing. They also interviewed Nadal, Murray, and Roddick afterward and they all confirmed what I stated earlier.

Nadal flexes muscles on and off the court

(Reuters) - Rafa Nadal flexed his muscles at the U.S. Open Thursday with a show of power rarely seen in the modern game.

Showing no mercy against his unseeded opponent, the Spaniard stormed into the quarter-finals with a ruthless display then led a player revolt that pressured organizers into rearranging the schedule after the two previous days were washed out by rain. The defending champion was quick to express his displeasure after weather delays left him facing the daunting prospect of having to win four matches in as many days to retain his title. "That's not fair, but that's what it is," Nadal growled after thrashing Luxembourg's Gilles Muller 7-6 6-1 6-2 in a little over two hours. "If you don't have rest, you have a big chance not (to) be fit enough to play well (in) the next match."

(...)

Within hours, the U.S. Tennis Association (USTA) announced they had bowed to the player's demands. The women's final, originally scheduled for Saturday, was put back a day, while the men's championship decider was shifted from Sunday, the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, to Monday, marking the fourth year in a row the last major of the year has gone into overtime. "We revised the schedule for the remainder of the 2011 U.S. Open in an effort to be fair to the players and our ticketholders," tournament director Jim Curley said in a statement. But not all the players were impressed with the decision, including world number one and title favorite, Serbian Novak Djokovic.

Last year, the Monday final was changed during the match from CBS to ESPN2. They'll probably do it again. They don't care.

I'm sure ESPN was more than happy to have the final moved to their #2 network. There's nothing quite like competing with yourself for viewers. ;)
