Usta Incompetent

I think they did as well...still no reason why I can't ask a question. I was telling my wife about the thread and she told me about some so called official telling her about 40's not counting. It plays along right with the subject of this thread. The bottom line is this. The USTA have people working for them out telling people things that don't make sense. I think what JRB, Schmke and Cindy said made perfect sense to me. I just still think while they may know what they are talking about, there are people that work for the USTA still causing confusion.

I didn't mean troll in quite the same way. I was referring to someone making statements that are almost non sequiturs meant to get a reaction. JoelDali is an amusing example on this board. I was just surprised that there was any confusion as I felt JRB, Schmke, and Cindysphinx clearly (and patiently) explained what the current ratings environment is.

I know for early start players it is possible to get removed from the league mid season. It happened to my 2012 9.0 team. His matches weren't DQs, but he was no longer allowed to play.

We recruited a player that was new to the area with a 4.0 early start rating. He had a good early start 9.0 season with our team in the fall and only had one loss. Then the year end ratings came out and he was bumped to 4.5. He had an extremely strong men's season in the spring including 1 5.0 singles win. So 1 week before mixed sectionals in the sumnmer, we were told he would not be allowed to play for our 9.0 mixed team. This really sucked for his partner because we had nobody else she could play with and she already booked accommodations for sectionals.

I agree with the judgment to DQ him, but certainly not the timing and how the USTA handled it.

This one is a little strange because mixed is a combo league. It's not surprising he was told he can't play under his 4.0 rating anymore but 4.0, 4.5, and 5.0 can all play 9.0 mixed, so I don't understand why he was told he can't play at all.

That makes no sense because ESR's are for the next league season and should not be used for a current league in season. The player should have been removed only if there was a DQ and bump in rating.
Seems strange or not all of the story is being presented.

Sections actually have a choice in this. They can (1) allow people to continue to play under their old rating, (2) continue to play under old rating but not in playoffs, or (3) force to play under new rating immediately. So, while your section may not do anything about YE promotions over ES ratings, it is plausible that some sections do. What is strange in this case is that a player would be forced completely off a combo-rating team when they would actually be eligible to participate at the higher rating as well (just with lower rated partners obviously).
