I played in it last year, but it was just horrible.

This event last year had the worst courts you can possibly imagine for grass.

50% of the courts were a dirt patch with the rest of the grass court just crap. 1-4 courts are playable. If any ball bounces expect the ball to not bounce or hop in any direction possible.

There was only a first rd consolation back draw, not the normal feed in or modified to quarters back draw as most other national events offer.

It's a shame such a history of the first US Open location is now run down.

So you basically get the worst courts and worst opportunity to gain national points. Its a lose lose!!

have fun

Sounds like a conspiracy to me.

The week long South of England grass court champs just got cancelled without a match played because of rain. Dig 'em all up!

Yeah, when I played in the Philly grass last year I head people talking about this tournament. They said the courts were in terrible shape, with leaves, acorns & pine cones strewn about. And the 'grass' was pretty much crab grass.

Bummed I missed the Philly tournament, but I'm definitely doing it next year.

Gut, you playing any of the local tournaments? There's a 30s Clay in DC late Sept. I'm playing doubles w/ a friend. Trying to decide if I want to do singles as well. The 40s version is in Baltimore, which is too far for me.

The NY event was after Philly, so they could of only told you how bad it was if they were from there.
Yes, they were referring to the year's prior tournament (2012).
Philly cricket club is very very sweet grass. never been to the other location you played.
Posted in other Grass Court thread:

Germantown Cricket Club. Coming in at a distant 3rd on the list:

Philly Cricket Club , where I'm told are the best courts around. Very few bad bounces, and I've never seen a brown spot or dirt clump. Played there 5 times now
