USTA Rating Question

Hello All...It's been a few years since I've played USTA. My last match was early 2020. I heard that after 3 years the rating expires and I would have to self-rate again. However, my current rating is a 2021 Year End Rating. So my first question is, why do I have a 2021 Year End Rating if my last match was early 2020? And second question, when will my rating expire? 3 years after my last match? 3 years after my 2021 Year End Rating (meaning 2024)?

Ratings expire from when last published, not lst match played. And as @denoted noted, there were no 2020 year end ratings as the USTA elected to treat 2020 and 2021 as on rating period.

Even if your rating expires it’s unlikely they’ll let you self rate below your last C rating.

My wife last played in April 2021 in an USTA league at 3.0 when she was a newbie at tennis. When will her rating expire so that she can self-rate again?

She has gone up by two levels in two years by playing tennis daily with weekly coaching lessons, but USTA won’t let her play two levels above like she wants to. She is being invited to join many 4.0 teams and has to be rated at least 3.5.

Can she self-rate at 3.5 in 2024 or 2025? She tried appealing up and they wouldn’t give it to her.

Even if your rating expires it’s unlikely they’ll let you self rate below your last C rating.

I’ve tried it a couple times to see if it was possible.. Got denied.

Makes logical sense to have that rule, otherwise the sandbagger cheaters would periodically sit out 3 years.

So the reality is that ratings don’t really expire. They live a long time.

Why won’t she just go play on a 3.5 team this year and get bumped up normally?

She is playing every day socially at our club and in other local leagues with 4.0 women and is not interested in playing USTA much. But she wanted to find out if she can play on a 4.0 league team in the future because her friends keep recruiting her.

Don’t you dare self rate lower than you should be!! Play at your true rating NOT lower!!!!
