When does my NTRP expire?

I last played a USTA match in the summer of 2020. But I received a NTRP rating as of 12/31/21 because of COVID (there were not YE ratings for 2020). Does this mean my NTRP rating will not expire until after the 2024 year-end?

Ok. Thought so. By then, I will be 55. Not sure why they USTA has age-based leagues AND NTRP ratings. If the ratings are so good, why the age categories? Just let older players like me move down when I want to unless the request is unreasonable. In other words, the algorithm should allow a player to move down more easily as they age.

If it has been many years since I last played USTA, and I decide to sign up again one day, how does it currently work? I just self-rate to whatever rating I want?

My understanding is that if your rating expired, then you need to self-rate again. Typically, USTA will bring you back at the same rating as before, but you can then appeal it if you believe it's not correct. NORCAL has a Self-Rate Appeals Commitee that reviews self-rate appeals. You can also try the automatic appeal process first.

People like playing with their peers? Also, money grab by creating more leagues and teams to sign up for.

I mean, worse case you would have two seasons, or a year and if you really aren't at the level you were you would move down. I agree the age based leagues end up kinda being nebulous though. For our area all the older guys that play the 40+, and even the 55+, usually also play the 18+ because they are still competitive at level in all of those and just take advantage of multiple leagues to play. Kinda sucks for the 18+ who have one league opportunity as they cannot play the 40+ and 55+, so they end up suffering in mixed! ( :) )

Which is why the USTA created the 18-39 division, so they can do a money grab, oh, I mean provide more playing opportunities, for those under 40.

Quick question on this. If I sign up for USTA, does it make sense to wait or sign up now? I'm wondering if leagues have seasons and specific time frames outlined by USTA. Don't want to sign up in the middle of the season if that makes sense.

Every area has a league calendar. Here’s the one for NorCal:
