Hey who cares if you know the rules or not..make up your own. Quick way to help your kid win. Default the out of state players that beat your kid to win the last tournament they played in.

Go ahead and do it. Nobody cares about USTA rules. You are the tournament director and whatever you say goes. And when the other player objects to their illegal default by stating USTA rules tell them "take it up with USTA"

Out of State players beware Arkansas tournaments!

Of course I could just be totally wrong here....she could just be a dumb blond that doesnt know the USTA rules on the USTA tournaments she puts on.

Wouldn't it be more persuasive to lay out the case as you see it, so that all the TTers are persuaded of the injustice? Here's your chance: what, exactly, happened?

He didnt mis-behave. Director made announcement at 1:50 that matches at would be delayed 30-60 minutes. Boys asked if they had time to leave. She said yes 10 minutes later she called their matches. I went to her and you told her you made announcement that matches would be delayed 30-60 minutes and said the boys had time to leave and come back. She snapped at me and said 10 minute timer or default. Official time keeper called him in at 13 minutes. Boys arrived 3 minutes late. Both had 2:00 matches only one was defaulted (mine)

When boys arrived I quoted 15 minute timer rule according to USTA and the boys were two minutes early. She told me to take it up with the USTA...goodbye. No game penalty, just default.

We've played almost a hundred tournaments and being from out of town we've been on timer before so we do know the rules. The whole problem was we shouldnt have entered this tournament. Won the last tournament there taking out #1 and #3 seed (incl tourny director kid) only to be unseeded again for this one. No big deal though.

Doesnt really matter anymore I was mad and frustrated when this post made. If both boys had been defaulted I still would have been very upset. But when it was selective as this appeared its irritating. But its just typical of the treatment we have received from this same group of people in the past. State level local tournaments ran by local clubs are very clanish. Last tournament from this same organization the (different) director didnt even leave office to give him his trophy didnt thank us for attending and on the way out the kid that lost the finals match smarted off to mine saying "you can go back to Oklahoma now" along with the rude stares from his parents.

Its just a shame that people will shake your hand and be nice as hell to you before a match but when the match is over and their kid has lost its amazing how someone that was so warm and friendly can turn so cold so quickly.

And you guys here can just jump all over this post and tell me what a bad parent I am and pick it all apart because that is what this forum has become also. I just want the rules to be the same for everyone and not to be decided by someone that has her day to be the HBIC.

Was this a USTA sanctioned tournament? Why was the tournament director doing this, and not the tournament referee? If it was a USTA tournament, and if it really happened this way (I have my doubts that we have the full story here), then you need to address it to your section. If it wasn't a USTA sanctioned tournament, then there isn't much that can be done.

Also, are you saying that your son played out his match played a 2 hour match and then was defaulted?

They have not posted results for today but based on the clues given in the post…

Women tournament director with son in draw
Person defaulted is a boy from Oklahoma
Tournament is in Arkansas
Really mad and posted at 3:00
2:00 match time

Pretty easy to figure that one out

Arkansas Junior Indoor Championships
Tournament director Kathy Blake

Three boys in 18s from OK, most likely either Aaron J Echols or Bryan W Beckman. It is hard to guess which one is the player in question. We will see when today’s results are posted.

Byran is tennisrecruiting rank higher than a seeded player, Bill Blake (same last name as tournament director). Aaron is a senior and plays more 18s so harder to compare.

I've seen home cooking in many different forms in AR, TN and KY. Not an indightment of Southern tennis by any means. Just a few senarios over the course of hundreds of matches. They were all situations of different nature that either directly affected my kid or others when my kid was not involved. Funny thing about home cooking is when it appears its often hard to prove.

In your case if others heard the the delay announced you may have a legitimate concern that the USTA or Southerns should be made aware of.

I appreciate you bringing out this in-justice done to your kid.. it's hard to believe that people who do tennis or any civilized sports would have this kind of heart.. if your story is really the way it went down ,then I hope that tournament director get the electric chair treatment from the USTA... good luck in the future...

I am from the USTA Eastern Section and while I respect the refs and appreciate them coming out to the tournaments, they often seem like they aren't very well-versed in the USTA rules. One match in college for example that I was playing, the ref overruled my call even though our opponents did not dispute my call, which is illegal I believe. Turns out my opponents were from the same town as him.

I guess my point is, is that you can't expect professional level refs at regular USTA events. Sorry to hear that this happened to your son, but for the future, just stay on the tournament grounds to avoid any more defaults.

You can easily file a Complaint with Tournament Referee and ask for Tournament Committee to rule, which is required by USTA Rules.

At the very least file a grievance against the Tournament Director and the desk worker. Director: Kathy J. Blake
Director Phone: 479-452-4031
Director Fax: 479-441-3726
http://tennislink.usta.com/tournaments/TournamentHome/Tournament.aspx?T=89857

As for the seeding issue, they probably used Southern or Arkansas rankings in which your kid did not play enough for points either region, although the TD should have done a manual seed in this instance if what you say is true.

Good point about the manual seed. Email seeding info the TD in advance of the entry deadline. Direct wins usually have the most weight.
