Vibration Dampners.

Hmm..im not too sure how to word this. But do different Vibration Dampners make a difference? like for example if i were to buy a cheap Prince dampner but then switch over to some 10 dollar Babolat dampner would it really make a difference? Also does it make a difference in weight?

It makes it sound different. Try it out for yourself. Some notice a difference (other than sound) and some don't. As for tennis elbow I think lack of vibration dampener is pretty far down the list of things that contribute to tennis elbow.

IMO b/c it filters the vibration out, although I would say it does a good job with feel too. Thats not much help there I now, but if your interested, I would strongly suggest you try them. You may or may not like them, but you don't know yet. Which VD do you currently use??

Numerous independent scientific studies in various countries have all reached the same conclusion: vibration dampeners do nothing to reduce the low frequency vibrations which cause elbow problems. They do reduce high frequency vibrations which are measurable but hardly felt. They do effect the sound of racquets on impact. Do a Google search -- easy to find this imformation.

Exactly.

I notice no difference with my elbow when dampeners are utilized. I just don't like the 'ping' when no dampener is present.

Same here, I do however have a preference on what to use, sometimes a rubber band is enough, other times I feel like using a worm style dampener. Its all personal preference.

I cna't believe I got nailed for a Babolat "O" and some other damn dampener for $3.49 each. I need to learn to tell the kids, "NO!" when they go to the tennis shop with me. Oh, and another quick story, my son (6) came to me while there with a new Wilson [K]something-or-other and said, "Hey dad, it's blue and black...just like I wanted!". $189!!!!!!! That did NOT come home with us.

That's exactly what I use. Our supply cabinets have a lifetime supply for me. However, at the check out in the tennis shop my kids just HAD to have something to go home with...figured a couple dampeners wouldn't be too bad and would quiet them down. Lady rung me up and I couldn't figure out where the extra $7.00 came from...

I don't think I have ever bought a dampener before. I usually find a few at the courts each summer but prefer the rubber bands.

I'd just like for them to enjoy the sport as much as I do. I'd rather them grow up to be in a much more stable career and play tennis in the evenings and weekends like their old man. ;)

one word on dampeners "NAPA".... seriously. They are called automotive grommets they are an exact copy of the pete sampras "O" dampener but a lot cheaper and softer. Sampras himself used these before he got his name printed on the ones selling now for more then they are worth. They do come in varying sizes.

1. Play with your racquet, without a vibration dampener
2. Play with your racquet, this time with a vibration dampener
3. Rejoice!

you just have to try them all out and see which one you like better..they all absorb a certain amount of vibration if its either + or - vibration then you like.
The princes usually do not absorb alot of shock.

im currently using a Pete Sampras dampner, feels nice. but of course if i miss hit it flys off.. never had that problem with a gamma red eye. thats what i liked about it too. and it felt pretty nice.

I use Babolat custom dampener. It dampens more than Sampras `0´. But if you want good dampener with some feel, then get Sampras `0´.

No vibration dampener does, hence the name. Any vibration dampener that claims to supress shock is guilty of false advertising. Any person that suggest a vibration dampener is capable of absorbing shock is simply misinformed or unwilling to accept a known fact.

I personally have stopped using a vibration dampener. I lost a fair bit of fine accuracy with it and although feel was good at the contact, i lost a bit of connection with what was really going on with the racket throughout the motion.

I can also hit harder, deeper and better without a dampener which would always make me want to pull back from the stroke due to limited feedback.

With a dampener IMO the feedback you get is more easily discernible becuase there is less interference, but without you feel everything albeit slightly cluttered.

Best dampener IMO is the babolat RVS. totally takes away everything.
The gamma schock absorbers are also very soft but at the expense of control. I was hitting poorly with it for some reason :S

However my speedport orange tour has no ping with co-poly without dampener.

not on their stiffer rackets I would have thought. Then again everyone has different limits or what they want, best bet is to demo it with and without rubber.
I personally haven't found a racket that needs a dampener since the stiff ones I used to use 10years ago (hyper hammer frying pan and bandit/hornets from prince).

Now they are almost all good without dampeners.
After all, the only real cause of pain is too stiff a racket or the player trying to put too much oomph/power into every shot which strains the arm and joints of shoulder, wrist and elbow.
