Video: backhand - forehand

Date me.

But in all seriousness, for your backhand, I think you're bending way too much at the waist. It's making you lose power as you lean forward to hit it. Like previously stated, you only move laterally for most of the time. For backhands, especially the low ones, step forward a little, let it get into your comfort zone. That way you can get a little bit more zip on your shots.

Your forehand seems pretty solid I think, but again, footwork is the issue. Post a longer video yes?

you bend at your waist. thats bad. bend the knees and get low for the ball. when you bend at the waist you throw your balance off and rob yourself of control and power. try to be more active moving forward into the court.

agreed on the advice. not only do you generate power on the backhand be stepping into the court, it makes the hitting zone accessible, so you don't have to bend at the waist.

ps, by the way Mr. Hokey, i'm not sure if the OP is the one in the video, ahah, since the OP's sig describes a slazenger racquet, not a head microgel as in the video. :)

You seem to decelerate the racquet through contact on the backhand side. Ideally you need to acheive maximum racquet head speed at the point of contact, giving you more spin and thus, control.

Your backswing is a little long (meaning you make a loop with the hitting hand), but it doesn't appear to be excessive enough to throw off your timing, especially on clay.

i think you exagerate the followthrough on your backhand way to much. its like your hitting the ball, and having a trophy pose like in golf watching where it goes. you cant be doing that.

this is a true statement. you slow way down from start to finish. one way to correct this is just swing as hard as you can for a few balls. then work backwards into the control. also work on breathing out when you hit. this allows you to really accelarate the racket. dont know why but ive had a whole bunch of coaches tell me that you cant swing softly if you breath out at contact.

You can compare your forehand to your backhand. See how your body weight moves through the ball driving forward even after you hit the ball on the forehand. When you look at the backhand, see that your upper body actually moves away from the ball. It isn't large, but it keeps your body weight from moving through the ball and results in you kind of arming the ball. Think about driving through the ball on your backhand and your body should be able to do it.

Couldn't I learn some kind of pressure point maneuver? As previously mentioned, bumps on the head. Not very attractive IMO.

Trust me, I've got a thousand and one lower back nerve centers goin' off right now. You don't want to hit the wrong one only to find she can't move for the next, oh, fourteen bloody weeks! :D

You need to figure out what to do with that annoying left hand. Perhaps you could serve drinks with it during practices? :) Just kidding....:)

The bending at the waist is killing power, as others have noted. Simply stand erect as you normally do, then bend your knees, and lift into the ball. You might try over-correcting by keeping your back very straight and just bending you knees. That will give you an indication of how far you are bending at the waist and not the knees.

Your balance is very good. That's quite helpful in a tennis player. You have rhythm and grace as well. Keep at it, bambina!

Or you could just complement her on being pretty and then start thinking with your other head and give her some constructive advice.
