He beat Rublev in Paris which is a good sign but he’s looked more like a guy with one foot in retirement than a contender the last year or so

That was SO last year.

What's he done since then? Been thrashed by Sonego, Nadal and Medvedev .. gotten most of Australia offside with his stupid demands .. beaten by Thiem and gone into a blind rage because he couldn't win a doubles match against Zverev and Struff.

But best of luck, hopefully your boy doesn't disapppoint again.

Stan has never beat Raonic in a slam match, including two losses at the AO in 2016 and 2019. Can’t overlook Raonic’s strong first round performance, either. Hopefully will be a great 3R match.
The last loss was a pretty straightforward win for Raonic. Prior to that in 2016 it was peak Wawrinka and Raonic still prevailed.
Raonic is just a terrible matchup for Wawrinka. Also with age Wawrinka's defensive game and ROS has gotten worse.
I won't be surprised if Raonic wins in 3/4 easy sets.

Stan is the better best of five player by a mile, I say Stan wins that one comfortably

Stanislas really needs to hope that someone takes raonic out before their potential 3R meeting.

No chance of that. Did you see Raonic's match today. He dismissed Coria like a fly. I don't see anyone who could beat him before he gets to Novak.
I fully expect Raonic to win and beat Stan. EASILY.
Hell, Raonic could even take Novak toi 4 sets or give the Serb a tight match. Maybe even 5 if Novak is careless.

Raonic would not take a set from nole, gentleman. Have my word. He'll eat away the dangerous floater, Wawrinka for Novak just to go down in straights at the hands of the Serb. The match-up is very cruel for the tall Canadian.

True. Novak is lucky in that sense. Wawrinka could trouble Novak, but Raonic can't. However Raonic can take care of Stan before he gets to Novak.
All that said, I'm impressed by Raonic's level. It will take someone of Novak's defensive ability and supreme ROS to beat Raonic.
Had Novak not been there in R4 - Raonic could have gone far I think.
It''s crazy how people are talking about Stan vs Novak when it should be Raonic vs Novak in R4.

Great respect for Wawa, but he's nowhere near the same Stanimal of 2013-15. In his old-age I'd say he'd be doing well to get to Djoker in R16, but that'll be the end of the road for the Swiss.

It could go either way. Raonic isn't such a beast that Stan can't beat him. 3-0 in slams is deceiving because 2 of them were close matches. Stan won their last match albeit it was indoors Rotterdam.

Gotta say, though, that each of the three Slam QF runs he made since his return from injury have been quite fun to watch.

RG 2019, took out Tsitsipas in a great five-setter, puts up an ok match against Fraud that was also somewhat fun to see.
USO 2019, overpowered Djokovic (an injured Djokovic, of course, but the first two sets were still nice)
AO 2020, beat the hyped player of last year in a five-setter, a shame he couldn't make it to semis

I say he's done fairly well for himself as a dangerous player to face in the draw even these days. Seems like they might be winding to an end, however.

I wouldn’t call a 6-7 7-6 7-6 7-6 4+ hour match a straightforward win, but I do think it’ll be another 4 set Raonic win.

That QF last year against Zverev was the most painful match I’ve ever watched. Favorite player losing to my least favorite. Also confirmed that Stan is now just a spoiler in the draw.

But he’s still epic though:cool:

If Stan makes it to the 4th round and the weather is blisteringly hot then he could well take Djokovic out but it would probably be a night match so the sun would not be a factor so hard to see Wawrinka being a threat to djokovic as he has an appalling h2h v Djokovic. Yes he has 3 notable Major wins over Djokovic...all of which on much slower high bouncing courts.
For those of us hoping for Djokovic to lose an on fire Raonic could spring a huge surprise if serving at say 75 per cent first serves if the court is as quick as they are saying. He did trouble Djokovic at Cincinatti last year on a slower court so i guess that is a slight positive and the fact surely he gets one win over Djokovic in his career if he as some self pride lol.
Really though Djokovic has plain sailing through to the semis.

They are 4-4 h2h in slams including Wawrinka winning the last 3.

Djokovic will feel the pressure and Wawrinka will be inspired.

Of course Djokovic has to survive against the powerful Opelka first.

If Djokovic makes it through all of this then Zverev will finish him off in the QF.

I wouldn't want to be a Djokovic fan right now.

Stan is going out in straights, one or two close sets, the second he steps on court versus someone who knows what they are doing.

Worthy to note Djokovic faced Wawrinka just once after 2016 USO final.

Only one match in last 53 months.
