What balls are the best???

I buy Penn at Costco as it is the only ball I get in 12 can boxes. Wish they last a bit more. Not to durable as a "new ball". Can get the job done for a few practice sessions.

Pro Penn play really nice and they last a while.
But it's hard to argue against the Penn from Costco, especially if the people you play with never bring balls.

The last case of Penn balls i bought were ok at frist. A few months later, the remaining ones were flat, and i never opened the can until the day i used it.

so that is why my serve is so much more effective with Wilson. All this time I had NO idea. and Dunlop balls really lowers amount of service winners I get in a match. NO WONDER:shock:

Long time Dunlop Grand Prix user here. They seem to hold pressure the longest of all the balls I've tried.
I recently picked up a case of Penn ATP's and I am really liking them. They are very bright and seem to hold pressure almost as well as the GP's. They feel a tad softer than the GP's which is a welcome relief to my elbow.
If you get a bunch of TW gift cards at 20% off during Thanksgiving and use them to buy cases when TW is offering free shipping, you can buy a case of ATP's for almost the same per can price as the cheap (and poorer performing) Penn Championships at Costco.

US Opens are money. But my club uses them, so balls from my personal can get lost/stolen. I use the Dunlop Grand Prix Hard Court Extra Duty whatevers. A bit better than Penns, the price is right.

I've seen a number of instances where Penn Championships are dead out of the can. Even the ones that aren't barely bounce compared to other balls. I would be willing to bet most don't meet specs out of the can. They are also the only balls I've actually broken during play a few times.
My ball of choice right now is the Penn Marathon ball. It doesn't get too fuzzy during play and they are very bright making them easier to see at night.

I may be an oddball, but I use Tretorn Micro X balls.
They don't go flat and they last a long time. The downside: they cost more, but again, .......they keep the original bounce.
I first bought these when I got tennis elbow and read that the Penn no-pressure balls (with thicker rubber) are higher impact. Not so with the Tretorn X rated.

what about Pro Penn USPTA balls ?? I have been seeing these in league matches, which I found surprising ??? this is USTA league, I thought we could only use Wilson official balls ?

ok, since i never started a post, so i am partially hijacking this one(since my question is basically the same).. Which ball in your opinion goes FASTEST through the air. I am looking to service winner pushers and not let them in the point, or take the first short ball and blast a forehand approach and take the net.
My experiences so far are either wilson or penn "titanium" balls, as they have synthetic felt on them and go fast through the air (walmart used to have wilson titaniums for like $1.60 a can a couple years back), so used them all the time. Also, red can(label) regular felt balls by penn and wilson are simply lighter and thus go faster. Oh, and, i did already read LeeD post about ones that went higher for him, wilsons, which is a good start. Thanks.

been playing lately with head atp, head radicall, penn championship, slazengers ultra extra life- now i belive extra life imo are the best -for outside.
indoor - im starting to enjoy tretorn's micro x - especially as my hitting partner cannot not even hit it back over

I start with any can marked "High Altitude". That eliminates a bunch right there.
For matches, I probably play Wilson US Opens the most. Penn ATPs the second most. I'm not too particular between the two. 90%+ of the guys I play with use the same.
I mostly play challenge ladders, which require both players to bring a can of balls and the winner gets to keep the unopened can. I try to spy what the other guy brought and if they are junk, I'll make sure to open mine. If I win that match, I relegate the unopened can to a practice session. I've actually had guys bring cans of "Coach" balls to matches. I suspect at least a few of them had a couple options in the bag, and upon losing, brought out the cheapest thing they had in there. Thanks bud.

Has anyone else that has elbow or wrist issues noticed that some balls are harder on the arm? I've found that Dunlop balls are very hard, and feel like i am hitting rocks. US Open balls feel heavy and slow, like I am hitting weights. I worked out with my son last night with a basket of US Open balls and my wrist was really sore at the end. Generally I just go with the heavy duty Wilson or Penn championship ball. They are $2.00 a can locally, and much easier on the achy arm.
