Incredibly Novak Djokovic lost 5 consecutive matches, 2007 Madrid SF, 2007 Paris 1st Round, and all Round Robin Matches at 2007 ATP Tour Finals before winning 2008 Australian Open.

Is this a "record" for most consecutive matches lost before winning a Grand Slam.

Capriati lost to Mauresmo in the Berlin '01 final and then to Rita Kuti-Kis in the Rome first round before winning her next event, Roland Garros. Oh you asked for the record sorry. That's the only one I know. Oops.

I'm too lazy to do a proper search on this, but if this "record" isn't held by Djokovic, I'm close to certain it's held by some Australian Open champ who lost 3 RR matches at the WTF the year before. I couldn't imagine that any player lost in 6+ consecutive first rounds of regular tournaments and then messed around and won a slam right after. That seems next to impossible to me.

Djokovic mentioned that he copied Nalby’s tactics from the 07 indoor season to learn how to beat Federer so being a spectator at the end of that year ended up being good for him
