i really wanna know what people thought federer on right after 07 AO ?

I want to know what tennis fans and players coaches had about Federer.

Many were predicting 16+ Slams. The only tidbit was facing Nadal on clay. Too many it seems forget Nadal made the 2006 Wimbledon final and took a set off Roger. And of course being the 2 time champ there. In 2007 it was a very big question if Federer could indeed beat Nadal there. But outside of that not too many gave Nadal the big notch from 08-10 that he had. A lot were waiting if he'd do the same at Wimbledon or if it was a fluke and of course on hard courts he was limited despite Miami & Canada in 05, he regressed in 06.

But I'll tell you one thing, to imagine Federer or Nadal still playing in 2019 let alone winning anything would have been laughed at.

He just won his 10th Slam and was the totally dominant force in tennis for years. And then imagine how he underperformed between Australian Open 2010 and 2017. If anything, then THAT was unexpected back then, and despite that he won 20. One must have thought he would win 25 Slams or more in 2007.

Even if some clueless people thought he would retire with around 30, his level must have been fallen from total dominance to an average of one Slam per year JUST AFTER that Australian Open 2007. Who could think that when he won there without losing a set?

In 2004 he still had those kinds of losses. Then he had one strange loss to Gasquet in 2005 (who was seen as the next big talent then by the way). And in 2006 he only lost to Nadal and to an upcoming Murray when he was exhausted in Cincinnati.

Yeah, 2009 was a crucial year for him.We can say that Fed's most successful period was from TMC 2003 till AO 2010.
