What was Federer's most satisfying Grand Slam revenge match not involving Djokovic/Nadal/Murray?

2008 Wimbledon semifinal - Safin (after losing 2005 Australian Open semifinal to him)
2010 US Open Quarterfinal - (after losing 2010 French Open quarterfinal to him)
2011 US Open Quarterfinal - Tsonga (after losing 2011 Wimbledon quarterfinal to him)
2014 Wimbledon 4th Round - Robredo (after losing 2013 US Open 4th round to him)
2015 US Open semifinal - Wawrinka (after losing 2015 French Open quarterfinal to him)
2016 Wimbledon quarterfinal - Cilic (after losing 2014 US Open semifinal to him)
2017 Wimbledon quarterfinal - Raonic (after losing 2016 Wimbledon semifinal to him)
2020 Australian Open 3rd Round - Millman (after losing 2018 US Open 4th round to him)

2017 Australian Open Final is by far the match which was his greatest revenge match
It was a match which reversed the years of mental dominance which Nadal had.
True clutch, never seen before at that level after someone being down for close to a decade.

Since you asked not involving Djoker/Nadal I dont think he was bothered by any other losses.

None of the above, I imagine. When he loses to say Robredo in the 4th round of the US Open, I really doubt he pissed at Tommy for what happened.

If I had to guess I think the only one on that list he took true satisfaction from was the 2017 Raonic match, only because he'd be able to trace a direct line from his lowest moment in 2016 to being back on top with a healthy knee. That was a classic case of "what a difference a year makes." But I doubt he was hungry for revenge on Milos, he was hungry for the title.

Honestly probably Millman lol. Partly because of how it went down. So close to being 0-2 at majors against the guy!

Should have been Wimbledon 2019, becoming the only the man to beat Nadal and Djokovic in the same tournament, putting a perfect book end on his 15 year battle against the 2 of them. Instead Nadal and Djokovic will always have the last laugh :cautious:

2011 French Open Semi you goons. Everyone wrote him off, and Novak had straight setted him in the last slam they played, as well as 3 straight times prior to the match IIRC. The finger wag said it all.

True, thats why even I mentioned 2017 AO and like you said the 2011 FO.

Apart from Nadal and Djokovic, there is no loss which Federer would even care, he knows the entire locker room is filled with his pigeons.

Even Murray who beat him in the 2013 AO in 5 sets was beaten next year in 4 sets at the AO and then belted on grass the year after that, except Djokodal I dont think he cares about anyone else....

2011 US Open Quarterfinal - Tsonga (after losing 2011 Wimbledon quarterfinal to him)

I say the above, as Federer needed to quickly redeem himself after blowing a 2-set/love lead at Wimbledon to Tsonga (then losing to him at Canada).

Of course, perhaps a loss would've been better as we're constantly reminded of what happened in the USO semifinal.

FO 2011 immediately came to mind when reading the post title, was shocked it wasn't in the initial list though. AO17 is good, but I don't ever feel there is much bad blood between Rafa/RF and also they were both in their mid-30s so from my point of view they both seemed just happy to be there to fight it out.

Outside of matches with Nadal or Novak, I'd say the Millman match (which someone mentioned). His loss to Millman at the U.S. Open was soooooo random. LOL. I'm sure Federer enjoyed his win in the next encounter.

Yes, my first thought was 2017 AO final against Nadal for sure.

But the 2011 FO semi against Djoker has to be a contender.

Who cares about his "revenge" against players far inferior to him?

Excluding Rafole it has to be Raonic. He wasted an excellent chance to win a slam after four years against him and came back with a bang the following year to win the title beating him on the way.

Nalbandian AO 2004 too. He lost in BOTH hard-court slams the previous year and beat him just for the second him to put himself only one win away from being #1 for the first time.

2019 ATP Finals match against Djokovic. You could tell in the celebration when he won he was so ready to get some revenge for 40-15.
