What's the reason for this double default?

I posted a couple of months ago to ask if I was in danger of DQ. This is my first year playing USTA as I had taken a 20 year hiatus from tennis since high school. Anyhow, just to briefly recap, I had joined a 3.5 team first intending to play singles when it became apparent that I was at risk for DQ by winning my matches too easily. I joined a 4.0 team and played only singles on that team. My 3.5 captain was aware of this and in an effort to have me continue playing on the 3.5 team (her decision), she put me only in doubles, and usually with the weakest players on the team.

My win-loss record at 4.0 was 5-2, with both losses occurring over 3 sets. I went undefeated at 3.5. The last match of 3.5 for me was on a Monday while the 4.0 match was that Thursday. The 3.5 team was in 2nd place and we were scheduled to play against a tough team, including someone at #1 singles who had gone undefeated all season by beating her opponents 6-3,6-2 or better. The 3.5 captain decided to have me play her at #1 singles, which I won 6-2,6-0. We won that match 3-2 but the scores were not entered for a week because the #2 singles had to reschedule.

In the meantime, I played my last 4.0 match of the season and won 6-3,6-1. I was DQ'ed the following day. This dropped my 3.5 team from 2nd place to 9th place (out of 11 teams). Any wins I had at 3.5 was reversed by having *DQ placed next to those matches but people could see the scores still (meaning it didn't show up as 6-0,6-0). I expected that the last match at 3.5 level would be in the other team's favor but I was surprised to see it entered as 2-2 win in my team's favor because the #1 singles got put in as a double default.

This 2-2 "win" did not improve my 3.5 team's standing and may have dropped the other team a bit lower (they ended at 5th place) so I'm curious as to why this was done? Is it so my opponent from the last 3.5 match can still claim to be undefeated because the results from our match was not recorded on tennis link? She is a very good singles player that I'm sure will get bumped to 4.0 next year. I won the match by that big of a margin because she was a hot head and could not handle it once she started losing. Had she held on in the beginning, the match would be a lot closer.

You were clearly sandbagging at 3.5 (your captain's fault, not yours). Sounds like your opponent in that last match may have been too.

Instead of looking for an explanation from us, you should be looking for a 4.5 team to play for, and if there are none around, just play tournaments.
What's the sense of playing 2 levels below yourself? There is no satisfaction crushing beginners.

Ha! Your captain got what she deserved.

Does Tennislink show a dq for your opponent?

BTW, I applaud your sportsmanship in not throwing games to try to avoid the DQ.

No, it's as if the match never took place because of the double default. I can't think of a reason the opposing captain would agree tO it aside from keeping her player's "undefeated" record. She's a computer rated player so no risk of her being DQ'ed.

For the person who mentioned that I should look for 4.5 teams to play on...there are 4.5 leagues but those mostly comprise of 4.0 players. I think 4.0 is where I belong for now. I win because of my consistency but I have plenty of things to work on before I can comfortably compete at the next level.

Sounds like an error by a league coordinator? I would write to the league. Otherwise the anxiety of wondering what might have been will consume you and send you to an early grave.

Besides, I'm curious. :)

Haha, I'm not THAT curious! I was hoping the knowledgeable folks on TT would be able to enlighten me. :) I could also ask the 3.5 captain but I suspect she's rather upset over the DQ. I wrote her a nice email when I found out about the DQ, saying I was sorry that my "promotion" adversely affected the team but I enjoyed being part of the team and getting to know some of the players. She never responded to my email.

I don't see why you apologized, she's the one who gambled and lost. You didn't do anything wrong.

Thanks for the clarification that your opponent had a computer rating. It does sound like a clerical error.

Email your League Coordinator; their email will be on the section/district website. Just tell them you think a clerical error was made. They will check and it was a clerical error, they will just revise it.

Otherwise, they will email you back with an explanation

I hesitate to do that because I think if it was a clerical error, one of the 2 captains would have noticed and contacted the league coordinator already. So maybe it's just my cynical side showing, but I suspect the 2 captains worked out a deal to enter the score this way. Maybe so my team can have an additional win, and the other player's record goes unblemished this season. Or maybe so my win over her won't keep her from being bumped to 4.0 next year. It's all speculation on my part, of course. Since the overall outcome really doesn't affect me one way or another, I'll just let it go.

Mmmm, you should inquire.

I doubt there were any shenanigans, but if there were then you should not be complicit. You noticed, so now you aren't really free to look the other way. The computer system has enough vulnerabilities without letting errors go uncorrected.

I doubt there was any foul p,ay, honestly. As a captain, I appreciate it very much when my players keep their eyes open and tell me when they think there has been a mistake. Your captain may have been so busy licking her wounds that she just didn't catch this.

It's one simple email (copying your captain, of course). Just send it.

Thank you to all who replied and for your advice. I just went on tennis link to look for the LC's email when I saw I wasn't the only one who noticed the error because the match results have been updated to reflect a 3-2 win in the other team's favor, and this was confirmed by the league coordinator today.
