Prime Rib, party potatoes and crossaunts. Cheese and crackers, maybe some nuts (cashew/pistacio's) as a snack before.

That's all Thanksgiving stuff, lol. But no stuffing? You gotta have stuffing with the turkey, and mashed potatoes. The yams (sweet potatoes), cranberry suace, green beans, dinner rolls, etc. I can easily do without and did for Thanksgiving. However, the turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and jello salad are like essential. And then the pumpkin pie for dessert. We also do pecan pie, which is good, but normally I go for the pumpkin first. This year I made a crustless pumpkin pie, which wasn't bad. I made it again the next day and it turned out much better.

Anyway, for Christmas we usually have a traditional Christmas morning opening gifts and then have like sweet bread. My sister makes this monkey bread every year on Christmas morning, which is nice. For the dinner or late lunch, it's usually ham, mashed potatoes, and then an assortment of other things, although I usually request the jello salad that my cousin makes for Thanksgiving. I keep telling myself that one of these days I'll try to make it, but then never do, lol.

We also make a ton of tamales during the holidays as well. It's like a tradition to gather on the Saturday before Christmas and make like 30-50 dozen tamales. We usually have like 7-12 people all helping out and it takes most of the morning to get the masa spread on the schucks and then filled with shredded pork. Then they need a few hours to slow cook and water needs to be added to the pots periodically so they don't burn.

You have something against yams??? Boooo. LOL. But, I wrote "stuffing". Right after turkey. Yeah, pretty much the same menu, except for desserts. We usually have ham as well on Xmas.

I was anti stuffing in years gone by, but now? Absolutely. I must have stuffing.

Pretty much the same every Christmas. Always have it at home or back home with Mum since I left. Turkey, ham, potatoes, peas, stuffing and gravy. The others have more vegetables and that is about it.

Used to do Turkey Curry on Boxing day.

I totally missed that.

I'm not a big fan of marshmallows, so the whole candied yams thing never appealed to me, especially since I'm not overly fond of sweet potatoes either.

I'd rather regular potatoes with some salt and pepper or the Lawry's seasoning salt. I do like plantains as well, but I feel like those have a different taste than sweet potatoes.

Seeing as how I probably only eat it like two days out of the year - Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day - it's pretty much a must have for me as well.

Christmas dinners here may include one or many of the following items:
Choose if this year it’ll be with own family or in-laws.
Difficult interaction with any of the above mentioned family groups, regardless.
Lavish calories consumption. Because down here it’s summer, inappropriateness of that. Christmas dinners are thought for cold climate, but we eat strong meals as it were snowing outside.
Boredom threats before 12 AM, to be prevented with enhanced food and alcohol intake. That’s better than talking.

looks very delicious

Corn flakes on top for crunch, soft potatoes with sour cream and cheese cooked to perfection. They are my fav potatoe aside from a good potatoe skin.

Will get my mom to throw in some bacon this year, she makes them for me, others find them fatty :)

GUATEMALAN Christmas:

Well.... its very traditional to have a Christmas TAMAL, for dinner, and I gotta say, there's nothing quite like a good TAMAL in the whole world.

1482267357tamal.png

Gross you say??? To the firepit with you, heretic! This is DELICIOUS, trust me, what it is? Corn "masa" (dough) mixed with pork lard, a very savory brown-red sauce, that is prepared with a bunch of spices and smokey chillies (THIS is the key for a good tamal, if you got a good sauce, youre there, all the flavor is in this sauce, you can either nail it, or kill it!). There is always some meat inside the tamal, it can be either some pork, chicken, or beef. All of this is wrapped around a banana leaf and tied up, before going into a boiling pot of water, where it is cooked.

You splash this with some lemon, and OH MY GOD.

(Editor's note: In Mexico (and around USA), its pronounced TAMALE, we pronounce it TAMAL. As in Mexico, there are a lot of different verisions for the tamal, but this one, with the red-brown sauces its the most traditional).

I can’t face the roast turkey dinner. Roast meat, potato and vegetables is the standard dinner every Sunday in the UK. I’ve never understood how people can have the same thing every week, much less choose it for a special occasion!

I eat pretty healthy all year so it’s usually whatever I’ve been craving. Huge bowl of fresh pasta, biggest pizza I can find, last year I had a giant freshly baked crusty loaf of bread and the cheeseboard/chutneys all to myself. That’s much more of a treat than meat and two veg, for me anyway.
