Sounds like a dreadful idea. Where would you put this extra 50 pounds so that it wouldn't create more pounding wear and tear on your joints??
^^ we're all relieved to hear you don't strap 50 pounds of weight on yourself for a match, only for practice. That your joints feel fine is irrelevant. Arthritis is a cumulative condition and any orthopedist will tell you that carrying around an extra 50 pounds while practicing tennis will speed the process.
Is 50 lbs really alot for one to train and possible to train properly?
Sounds like arthritis would happen to just about almost everyone since everyone is either overweighed or if healthy, train in a gym with weight.
It's probably a lot to be running around with. It would only exasperate the impact stress from running around a lot. This is a bit different than doing weight training in the gym unless you're doing heavy/weighted plyometric work for some reason.
An overweight person has still adapted to their weight somewhat (as in the muscles are used to moving around their extra weight to a certain degree, of course that doesn't eliminate the stress), so I can't imagine taking someone who is adapted to a certain weight and then suddenly adding weight and then running around as being the best of ideas.
Better options for weighted cardio might be sled drags or prowler pushes. There's still external resistance, but it's not constantly on your body nor does it add to the impact much
I usually wear 50 pound training weights to practice recently, so I can move faster when I take em off, what's your opinion on how well they really work
