When Federer was 32...

Actually, I've been hearing the 'old' term for the last decade, in reference to Agassi when he was like 32 to 35.

The difference is that Federer faced two all time greats when he was 32. At 32 Federer was extremely good but he had lost 5-10% compared to his prime so he had a hard time against the two.

Nadal and nole also lost 5-10% but they are facing complete mugs so they still win.

Had 32 yo Federer faced the 2015-19 field minus the other big two he would have continued to win 2-3 slams a year (same probably applies if 32 yo Federer had to face the 03-06 field) but since he had to face nole and Nadal he lost some.

Now noledal only have to face 37 yo Federer and still got beat by him occasionally so they did slow down but there is nobody to stop them yet.

Now I checked tennis statistics. Since the beginning of their pro careers, this is status of their matches until their 32nd birthday.

Federer played 1116 won 908 win/loss percentage 81.4, minutes on court 112,716
Novak played 1039 won 859 win/loss percentage 82.7, minutes on court 113,251
Nadal played 1090 won 903 win/loss percentage 82.8, minutes on court 120,990

From the above we can see that Roger played just 77 matches more than Novak and 26 matches more than Nadal until their 32nd birthdays respectively.

From the above we can also see that Roger spent less time on the court than both Novak and Nadal. He spent 8.92 hours less than Novak and 137.9 hours less than Nadal on the court playing Pro tennis.

Therefore, we can't say that Roger was "older" because he played just 77 matches more than Novak and 26 matches more than Nadal while spending less time playing Pro tennis until the age of 32 than both Novak and Nadal.

That seem just as an unjustified excuse, I'm sorry to say.

Those number of minutes on court do not take into account the amount of time taken between points and number of ball bounces before serving.

Averages:

Federer : 8 seconds (0.7 towel wipes, 3.2 ball bounces between serves)
Nadal : 33 seconds. (readjust hair and shorts, 10 ball bounces)
Djokovic : 31 seconds (0.6 bulging eyes glares, 71 ball bounces)

Federer turned 32 in August 2013. 32 yo Fed lost to plenty of other players outside of Nadal and Nole. Robredo, Gulbis, Monfils, del Potro, Hewitt, Nishikori, Wawrinka, Chardy, Tsonga. You get the idea.
