Which of these records will Federer atleast have tied by the end of the 2009 U.S Open? These are the ones I was thinking of:

-most slams ever-14 by Sampras. He would need to win atleast 4 of the next 11 to atleast tie this by the end of 2009 U.S Open

-most Wimbledons-7 by Sampras and Renshaw. He would need to win the next 3 Wimbledons to tie this by the end of 2009 U.S Open.

-most Open era U.S Opens-5 by Connors and Sampras. He would need to win atleast 2 of next 3 U.S Opens to atleast tie this by end of 2009 U.S Open.

-most Open era Australian Opens-4 by Agassi. He would need to win atleast 1 of next 2 Australian Opens to atleast tie this by end of 2009 U.S Open.

-most Masters titles-17 by Agassi. He would need to win atleast 5 Masters titles in next 2 3/4 seasons to tie this by end of 2009 U.S Open.

-most year end #1s-6 by Sampras. He would need to end 2007 and 2008 at #1, and have wrapped up(practicaly even if not mathematicaly counts too here)the 2009 year end #1 by end of the U.S Open like he does annualy up to now.

-most consecutive Wimbledons win by Borg-Borg won 41 straight matches at Wimbledon. Federer needs to win this years Wimbledon, and reach atleast the final of Wimbledon 2008 to atleast tie this.

I think it's pretty clear Fed will have all of these by Sep 2009. Throw in an Olympic gold medal in 2008 and a French Open this year.

Yeah I think he will win the French Open this year too. I am not sure about the Olympic Gold, I think he will put pressure on himself after his dissapointment in 2004 and it might hurt him. I hope I am wrong though and Beijing is where he gets to hear his anthem.

I see no reason why Fed won't win the gold next year. 2004 he was just warming up to being the dominant player he is, he didn't have the consistency yet. heck he hadn't even won Wimbledon that year yet!

I think these next 3 years are critical for him since while I believe he will have chances still after 2009 certainly, by then it will get harder since that is when you are 28 and you might start to slow down, and when the young players have maybe improved to the point they need to to threaten more. The more records he gets by the end of 2009 the less pressure he will feel too after that too. I want to see him happy after the 2009 U.S Open with most all the records tied or beaten so he can relax and have more fun after that.

He had won Wimbledon twice by the time of the 2004 Olympics but I see your point. His dominance is much more secure now. Back then you felt Roddick or Hewitt had a 30-40% before they played. You dont feel that way about anyone now.

I want to clarify 1 thing-it is impossable for Federer to have tied Sampras's 7 Wimbledons by the end of 2009, and not have broken Borg's 41 straight wins at Wimbledon. It is possable to do both, it is possable to have done neither, it is possable to have atleast tied Borg's 41 straight wins at Wimbledon but not tied Sampras's 7 Wimbledons by the end of 2009. However it is not possable to have tied Sampras's 7 Wimbledons by the end of 2009, and not beaten Borg's 41 consecutive wins at Wimbledon.

To me it seems pretty likely that he will break all these records by USO 2009.....i would like to see Andy Murray win wimbledon by this time,so i didnt check the 7 Wimbledons box.

If somebody not named Federer wins Wimbledon by the end of the 2009 U.S Open I think most likely in this order would be:

1)Murray
2)Gasquet
3)Ancic
4)Roddick
5)Hewitt
6)Djokovic

Murray probably has the best chance to do it.

Wouldn't it be impossible for Fed to have even tied Sampras' mark of 6 consecutive year-ends at #1? He first became #1 in 2004, so by the end of the 2009 USO, he'd only have a max of 5 consecutive year end #1s. He'd tie it by the END of 2009.

Oh well, just semantics, he'll probably have all of those records by the time his career is over.

LOL, why the hell bring up this topic? 7 wimbledons by end of 2009 is impossible by the way.

Nothing in special just came across this thread while search for the thread about Federer's best matches. Where the hell is that thread by the way?

This is amazing list of records Federer might be able to tie or break next year (or in his career). This tells about the type of accomplishments Federer has been building.

If Fed or someone who knows fed is reading this

f*ck the master shields.... no one gives a flying f*ck about masters shields

nadal has his shields on hard courts, he's still considered a joke on hard courts because of his records at the AO and the US opens

win the slams.... slams matter

I'm sure he knows that himself, even in a so called bad year(only for his standards)he still reached 3 slam finals.Although I disagree that Nadal is joke on HC but that is off the thread topic.

dominance is extremely fragile.

everyone knows nadal is better than federer on clay...but that doesnt mean he cannot lose a match to roger on clay.

But deme08 still thinks it is LIKELY .

Why not? All the feats I referred to are still achievable by the end of 2009 USO for Federer. Ok I mis read about 7 Wimbledons but 6 still very likely.

Most grand slams-14 by Sampras right now VERY LIKELY
Most Open era Australian Opens-4 by Agassi right now VERY LIKEY

14 slams I agree, I wouldn't call 4 AO's VERY LIKELY, likely yes. But he's not as big a favourite there as he used to be.

I agree he won't be the favorite to win it unless of course if he regain the No.1 ranking by end of this season. But if he stays healthy and all the beginning of next year I can see him winning the AO carrying the momentum from USO and the motivation of well, having a point to prove.

Most slam final losses to the same player. He'll have at least 6 slam final losses to Nadal by the end of the US Open 2009. What's the record?

Interesting question. Federer has lost 4 slam finals to Nadal. That's the most I can remember of any top player losing to one player. Where's Moose Malloy? :)

I agree it's likely to be 6 by the end of 2009.
