Which replacement grip should I buy?

I'm looking to get a new grip for my Head Microgel Prestige Midplus. I'm thinking either Wilson Pro Hybrid or Gamma Hi-tec. Which is better, and which is the most comfortable without an overgrip?. I play one handed backhand, and I'm looking to get a grip that feels like leather, with the pluses of a synthetic grip.

Also, how does placing a replacement grip on a racket affect grip size. Will it be the same as before?

Both of these grips have different thickness. I know the Wilson Pro Hybrid is 1.6mm, don't know about Gamma Hi-Tech. Experience in the past feels like 2mm in thickness. If you do not wish to change the grip size, then get the same grip you had before.

Pro Hybrid is soft & slight tacky on surface, and firm in the base. Hi-Tech is slightly soft in base, and slippery on surface...as for which one is better, only you can be the judge...

What is it that determines the grip size of a racket though? Is it the racket or the grip? Is my racket going to suddenly change from a 4 5/8 to a 4 3/8, if I change the grip, for instance?

That depends on which grip you get. Most likely, unless you get something like Laserfiber Reducer or Babolat Skin Feel, it won't shrink down the grip size. These two grips mentioned are known for reducing your grip size.

If you care a lot about grip size, find out what is the stock grip on your HEAD racquet, and look for thickness info of that grip...that should be your starting point, yes?

Struggling to find info. The Wilson Pro Hybrid is 1.6 mm. I will come back to you on this. If I was to add an overgrip to the Pro Hybrid or Hi-Tec, would the bevel feel become less then my current Head Hydrosorb grip? The Hydrosob is quite padded in imo.

The Pro Hybrid and Hi-Tech are 1.8mm. The Head hydrosorb is estimated at 1.7-1.9mm, so they are all roughly the same. I don't know the weight, but usually leather is heavier, and the pro hybrid and hi-tech are both leather.

Hi-Tech isn't leather. It's synthetic. Pro Hybrid has a leather base to it, but the top layer is synthetic...

The pro Hybrid is closer to leather though, is it not? The Gamma Hi-Tec is also supposed to be close, in feel, to leather.

You can opt for TW's leather grip @ 1.5mm + Babolat VS Original overgrip @ .4mm = 1.9mm.

Or TW's leather grip @ 1.3mm + Babolat VS Original overgrip @ .4mm = 1.7mm

Thanks.

The website I went on said the Pro Hybrid was 1.8mm. Frustratingly, I have gone ahead and bought it now. I will try it out, but I will consider your suggestions if I don't like it.

If my grip was to shrink even slightly my finger most likely wouldn't fit, when using the index finger measuring method. Does anybody know if pros using smaller grip's can still fit the index finger? I have seen pic's of federer on google that suggest there is nearly no gap.

I'll re-post that.

Does anybody know if the pros that use smaller grip's, can still fit the index finger in between their hand.

How much roughly would the babolat vs overgrip add to the racket. I would hope it only adds about a 1/32 of an inch.

thanks

If you're trying to keep your grip size down with an overgrip, you may want to try Babolat Skin Feel replacement grip. It's very thin and feels very much like Gamma Hi-Tec.

I have measured the ProHybrid compared to my Hydrosorb and they are about the same thickness and weight (both 20g). I don't see how the pro hybrid offers any difference to a synthetic grip when it is the same specs.
