Honestly the only reason that it irritated me was that it appeared to be intentional gamesmanship. Not the shout itself but the rest of the tirade just felt like a ploy to throw Stosur off. I have no idea if that is true or not, it is just the feeling that I got while watching the match.
Could be, thats what Connors and Pat Mac and others used it for. Whenever an opponent gets on a roll, do something to break their momentum.
I am a huge Serena fan, but those tirades were out of line. I never liked when Mac did them, and I still hate it when he does them on the senior tour, although today they are done half jokingly.
I grew up playing playground basketball and love trash talking. I would not mind if tennis even had players who liked to trash talk each other sometimes. But the workers like the chair ump and lines people should be left alone. They may make some mistakes but a powerful player should not embarrass them.
