Who are the best coaches in Georgia?

Honestly the only reason that it irritated me was that it appeared to be intentional gamesmanship. Not the shout itself but the rest of the tirade just felt like a ploy to throw Stosur off. I have no idea if that is true or not, it is just the feeling that I got while watching the match.

Could be, thats what Connors and Pat Mac and others used it for. Whenever an opponent gets on a roll, do something to break their momentum.

I am a huge Serena fan, but those tirades were out of line. I never liked when Mac did them, and I still hate it when he does them on the senior tour, although today they are done half jokingly.

I grew up playing playground basketball and love trash talking. I would not mind if tennis even had players who liked to trash talk each other sometimes. But the workers like the chair ump and lines people should be left alone. They may make some mistakes but a powerful player should not embarrass them.

Alright let me clarify, the only exceptional issue that I had. I too believe that we should be respectful to the umpires. I am a long time soccer player so I still refer to all officials as sir

So what he said something about Serena!!!! I dont care if she was green she acted like an idiot! Serena is my favorite woman player so dont even say im a Serena hater! You saw a video of him talking for a short amount of time and making a point about Serena ohh well! Get over it!!!!Craig is an amazing coach!!!!!If u dont like what he said so what.Get over it!!!

To be honest, I didn't like that video more from a kid's boredom stand point. 6.5 minute video, 1.5 minutes of some shuffles, 5 minutes of the coach yacking.

My girl would have checked out about 1 minute into his speech! And as a parent I would be like, "shut up already and teach the kids some tennis, I can handle the rest of their upbringing, thank you very much". But thats why I home school, I don't like people pontificating to my kids.

But Craig has had a good deal of success so I guess it works for him.

Sorry, I know he is a great coach. But I would have walked over and taken my kid home if she didn't walk out. Just not my thing.

If I pay a guy to teach tennis I don't want him doing anything but talking technique or tactics. But I am a homeschooling weirdo who doesn't let ANYONE correct or give speeches to my kids, so what bugs me others think is great.

Yeah, I was excited about this thread until I got to this page.

Right now, my 6y/o son is at the UTA at Piedmont Park. Not sure I need the best coach in GA at this stage.

Anyone have any opinions on the various summer camps in ATL:

^ Yes unfortunate that the thread got hijacked. I've never been much of a fan of the camps, I think the real improvement comes from consistent, year-around drills but there are other more knowledgeable people here on that. I'm personally not a big fan of the UTA franchise system, but I am sure they are producing some talent. From talking to a parent or two at tournaments thier fees seem high by the standard of at least three on the original list.

Alan MIller at Athens Country Club has to be listed here. He is one of the best out there. He is one of a few who is not afraid to push a kid.

Definitely off base to say the game has passed Juan Farrow by. Juan's the real deal. He's all about movement, strategy, conditioning and mental toughness. Not a stroke mechanic, ultra modern sport science guy. Definitely old school.

But, he'll weed out the kids who don't really have the heart to compete. And without that the best coach in the world isn't going to be very effective. I worked quite a bit with Juan. He is quite remarkable.

I'm just sayin...there is a time and a place.

After talking to multiple current college players, ex-college players, and parents of highly ranked Juniors, we landed with Ginepri Academy at Olde Towne. http://www.oldetowneathleticclub.com/ginepri-performance-tennis-academy/. Great coaches like Jason Parker, Julius Roberts, John Shults, Ellen Young, Joseph O'Dwyer and Richie Martin. Great drills. Great mentoring. Great overall tennis minds. Inspired coaching all around. Very Cool inter-squad match play on the weekends as well. Hope this helps.

As a coach myself and former competitive junior player, I can't say enough great things about Patti O'Reilly at UTA Blackburn. She is the real deal and excellent with children. And to answer an earlier question, she did play at Duke.

Ace John can't say a bad thing about oldetowne. they seemed to go very strong in the direction of homeschool and virtually priced themselves out of the afterschool market, but they really are two completely different markets. so to speak. My son asked me something like "dad, the finals of the bullfrog are on monday, how do kids get out of class?" "do you really think anyone in that final gets in the car to go to school?"
