yes, another great example of an amazing forehand, that is as good as Graf's. as I said, Steffi gets picked as the best forehand of all time because it was so consistent and cause she could hit it from almost everywhere on the court, thanks to her superb movement, but when Mary and Sam were on and in position, their forehands were just as lethal(if not more).
Every time I read those two words 'when on' as a qualifier, its an invitation to ask just how often was this player 'off' that this distinction is so important? And just how many matches did this player lose even faster, hoping that the 'on' switch was just a few more forehands away. Not a real fan of inconsistent weapons lauded, because too often the result is actually worse because so much goes wrong so fast when that weapon does not show up. Too often an inconsistent weapon - isn't! It behaves like a drunk guest that just won't leave the party.

it is not so much the weapon itself, but the player who is on and off, in these cases. Like with Graf, Mary's and Sam's best shot was their forehand - when they were on, the forehand was on.

My penny's worth. I think the best forehand when it was 'on' not day in, day out (like a Graf, Evert etc) was Mary Pierce. She could make Graf look like an elephant. As I say, she had to be 'on'.... but when she was.... carnage!

Pre Graf, Sue Barker had a fearsome forehand.

Pierce playing her absolute best, I have said before and will say again, is probably the best I have ever seen. Sadly she only played at that level maybe 20% of her entire career and the rest was just hit or miss. The 1994 French Open was a total bloodbath of anybody who got in her way up to the final where the weather, her nerves, and Vicario taking a different tactic and clearly being ready for her all combined to do her in.

But I'm so happy she finally took the title :)
I've been lobbying hard for her to get in to the IHoF.
