Who among Monfils, Verdasco, Haas and Robredo can achieve greater heights this 2013 ? Each one has been a consistent top 20, and is trying to crawl back to the top.
Each one has either a mental obstacle, or an injury or old age blocking their path. But nevertheless, each of these players have great potential to cause trouble for the big 4.
Robredo, on clay is another Ferrer. He has reached top 5 himself and has a Masters title to boot. Certainly a formidable foe this clay season. Can be a dark horse this FO.Has recently beat Anderson to claim the Moroccan Open. He was hampered by injuries these past few years but is slowly coming back.

Haas is a former top 2, and just recently beat Djoker. Seems to have renewed energy. Great upside for him if he remains injury free.

Monfils is making a come back from injuries. Hopefully he'll be injury free from here on. Consistency and mentality are his question marks, besides health issues.

Verdasco is a head case. But once, and if, he gets it together he is a very exciting player to challenge the top 10 (well excluding Fedal:). ). Hope he does.

Each of them can make a big noise in the coming Grand Slams. Who do you think will make it and get back o OP 10 and at least reach a GS semi this year ?

how about none of them. i mean just realistically. Haas has the best chance but he has a lot of points to defend too at halle and hamburg

Haas for sure. He's not far from the top 10 right now and stands a reasonable shot at getting there. He does have more points to defend in the second half of the year, but he didn't play any of the big clay court tournaments heading into RG last year, so he can gain a lot of ground at Madrid and Rome. Also, no points from Wimbledon and only 10 at US Open, so a decent run at the slams is a big gain.

If he maintains his current play, he should continue his climb into the top 10.

A slam SF might be unlikely, but I wouldn't say impossible if things break right.

This season is the best time for Robredo to make a great noise. Just won Morocco Open and is rank #42. No points to defend. Hope he gets seeded by FO.
Hope he qualifies for the remaining Masters or get a WC.

Haas.. He's in good shape and has had some really notable wins... Mentally in a good place as well.

Robredo is still getting into his groove. Monfils has been losing a lot to people he should be trouncing, still not 100%.

Verdasco... Don't get me started. What's wrong with him? Is it still the neck, or is his heart not in it anymore?

Verdasco should get a new coach. Don't know what else is wrong with him. I thought all along that he'll be staple item in top ten or five. But he has sine deteriorated. But surely he has the ingredients to beat the top 8 more consistently. What's between the ears should be worked on, plus etc etc

A strong surge from Haas would be a good story.

Never liked Haas for some reason. I like Kohlsreiber, so it's not him being a German. I like Gasquet, Robredo, Almagro and Wawrinka (to some extent), so it's not a ohbh thing. Must be his friendship with Federer or not, because I rather Fed win than Haas.

Wow. Didn't know Haas is so close to 10. I guess he could reach it then. Don't have too much hope for a GS semi though.

I voted for "I don't care", because none of these players are relevant. Nobody is seriously considering anyone outside Rafael Nadal/Djokovic/Murray/federer to win a slam in 2013. :p

If you are a true tennis fan and not just of one player, then everyone in the professional tour is relevant (well, more or less).

Haas was a great player in the early 2000s but he was constantly plagued with injury.
Monfil- is a complete head case
Verdasco- is dangerous for any top 10 player to face but I don't think he's consistent enough to get there

what do you mean by "former glory". These guys never won anything of note

Being in the top 10 for at least 1-2 years are glorious achievements, imho. Robredo has been top 5-8 from 2006-2008. Won a Masters1000 in Hamburg. Monfils has been rank 9-15 during 2009-2011, beating Nadal and Murray. His athleticism and game can soar through greater heights if his potential is maximize. Haas has been as high as #2, beaten Djokovic fairly recently. Verdasco has been rank 7-10 from 2009-2011, reached a GS semi.

My point was, at their best, they showed that they have the ability to beat the Top players if their health permits (and their mental fortitude strengthens), and game improves and becomes consistent enough. Some things just have to click for them.

I can't believe you took time to answer this troll. Do you know he does it to make Nadal fans look bad?

IMO? Haas is a bit old, but hope to see him in faster seasons this year. Can't really see him on clay for the moment, but I think he'll have a chance to take a title here and there. Monfils? It's now or never, clay is his best surface and is easier on his knee. Although given his ranking, he won't have a lot of good draws, and that clay may penalize his body and lower stamina since he hasn't played for continuous periods this year. He trains at RG right now with Tsonga's previous coach (who is coached by one of Monfils' previous coach, the one who body builded him, R. Rasheed). And WCs don't award points if misused, so having to face Montanes was a chance he blew in one bad service game. I didn't heard of Robredo nor Verdasco this year, really, so I won't pronounce myself for the moment. So one of the first two players I mentioned. But I think top 10 or GS semi is too high right now for either of them. Unless Chanko Tipsarevic is nice enough to give his place. He also has physical problem, or so I heard during M-C at TV.

Robredo is maybe the worst top 5 ever. Incredible speed but absolutely nothing else. Ferrer has a big forehand and has knocked Nadal out of multiple slams, Robredo has no weapons and never did anything at all.
