It's just boring, irritating and repetitive. It looks like a lack of confidence in yourself, as you clench your fists and look at the pits.

And even more annoying is when the coaches reciprocate by clenching their fists. Applause sounds better, and is more elegant on the part of the player's staff.
Elegant? Tennis involves real people with real emotions, not manufactured country club behavior.

Tennis had worked for decades to shed that forced, lifeless country club behavior, as it was playing a part in the sport not appealing to normal people, thus hurting it chance to appeal to a larger range of the population. Since the 1970s, tennis began to lose that country club BS (with a few exceptions on both the men and women's tour) and grew its popularity to phenomenal levels never thought possible before that period, all due to the aforementioned shedding. In this century, tennis had to endure a few players attempting to reclaim some manufactured country club image and market it as the face of the sport, but it did not--nor can it make some widespread return, unless some want to see the sport fade into obscurity.
