Why didn't Uniqlo want to extend their Novak deal? Do they regret that now?

Novak x Uniqlo introduced some of the coolest tennis kits I've ever seen, especially from RG 2014-end of their deal. Perhaps Uniqlo thought Novak was no longer going to be ranked in the top 8 for a while, and I can see why he isn't as marketable as Fed, but Novak has had more success this decade overall. Below are some of my favorite Novak x Uniqlo kits. Having Fed and Novak on the team would have made Uniqlo an even bigger company.

This one is a nice shot of him wearing their more casual wear. Too bad Novak and Uniqlo is gone.

They certainly don’t regret it. They just got Fed. Djokovic could win the next 6 majors and not be as popular or marketable as Fed.

We will never know why they didn’t renew him. We won’t even know if they made him an offer. They could have heard the rumors about his off court personal issues and didn’t want him representing him. Maybe they already heard Nike wasn’t going to give Fed what he wanted and started positioning themselves to get him.

I always thought Uniqlo had Novak wearing some of the shabbiest, cheapest, and ugliest "athletic wear" I'd ever seen. Same trash that Nishikori wears. Boxy fit polos with monochromatic coloring, too often beige or burnt orange.

At least Lacoste and Sergio Tachinni are stylish and fit well. Curiously, Federer's Uniqlo clothing looks quite good.

Uniqlo still wanted him. But Djokovic shopped around, and wanted to leave.

That style is popular with older people, which might be why lots of people here were happy that Fed was leaving the bland yet somehow simultaneously garish Nike designs behind.

Really?
Where did you get the info?
Hard to believe Lacoste paid that much money........
If it’s true, that’s insane.
****, i've been trying to search that since you quoted this, but I simply can't find. I think someone in this board posted it (with a link) but right now I don't remember the thread title

This isn't at all a dig at Novak, but he couldn't do for them what Roger can. RF is an international brand. He's up there with Tiger Woods on the back of every magazine.

Djoko has the habit of changing outfit every now and then. From Adidas to Sergio Tachini to Uniqlo and now Lacoste.

Actually, it was Lacoste that simply outbid them with $17mi per year.

Not sure how accurate this is (dated yesterday), but this site reported that Djokovic's Lacoste deal is worth $9.4million per year for 5 years:
https://www.verdict.co.uk/novak-djokovic-net-worth-sponsorship/

"However, Djokovic’s most lucrative deal is with Lacoste. The fashion brand pays approximately $9.4m (€8m) annually to serve as his kit supplier. As part of the deal, Lacoste has released a range of Djokovic branded attire, known as the Novak Djokovic collection."

That is a pretty good deal considering Lacoste makes about 2 billion gross a year.......nowhere near Uniqlo.

And also considering Federer is making 10 mill a year from Uniqlo (yes, the deal is nowhere near 30 mill that was reported.).

Yup. The deal is a good one for Djokovic. The deal only turned out good for Lacoste once he won WB18. It wasn't looking too hot for a bit there.

As for Federer's Uniqlo deal that you 'chose' to believe from a tweet that suggests $5m-$10million/yr (unproven), here's a link that says otherwise, same site as Djokovic's info:
Federer:
https://www.verdict.co.uk/roger-federer-sponsorship-money/
Djokovic:
https://www.verdict.co.uk/novak-djokovic-net-worth-sponsorship/

Look, Federer/Uniqlo could well be under $30million/yr. It's just odd that you're adamant on $10million/yr based on a single, unproven tweet, yet the rest of the world's press are saying $30million/yr.
Neither of us can say with any certainty which is correct, but the odds are against your case. Either way, we'll find out in the near future.

I am adamant, because it simply DOES NOT MAKE SENSE. And I said that, as soon as I heard about the deal......look back on the posts here, and you will see, that I didn't believe the figure was true.

And after a couple of weeks.....bam a tweet, from a viable source that say's what I said.

As a first reaction, I can see why you think that. Heck, I'm sure many were just as surprised as you were, me included. However...

Tadashi Yanai, the founder of Uniqlo's parent company, is worth about $23billion, and Uniqlo is worth about $14billion with revenues of about $17billion. Its parent company + Uniqlo are projected to have revenues of $29billion by 2020.

$30million is only 0.13% of Tadashi Yanai's net worth of $23billion. That's not a typo; it's not even 1%.

If you had $100 in your pocket, would you be willing to sign Roger Federer, the biggest name in tennis, to be Global Brand Ambassador for the huge cost of $0.13 a year?

IMO, it's a great deal for both parties.

I would sign 3 Roger Federer's for that amount of money. :)

But seriously, I would sign other celebrities who a just as easily recognisable, if not more than Federer, in north America, and Europe for that matter.
