Why is FILA apparel so boring these days?

Why does FILA produce such uninspiring clothing at the moment?

This is a brand with arguably the greatest design heritage in tennis apparel, producing such iconic clothing as the Borg Matchday warmup and Borg's pinstriped, slimfitting shirts. Not forgetting the Vilas' range pre-Ellesse.

So why is the current range so insipid and boring? My understanding is that FILA is now owned by a South Korean sportswear company but that's no excuse to let the brand's style go down the tubes. Why can't they overhaul their lines to return to FILA's uber-stylish halcyon days?

P.S
The same question can also be asked of Sergio Tacchini...

I guess they're going through a bad point right now. Nike stuff is pretty good though.

Let me explain fashion. There are some people who like flashy clothes and some who like a plainer look. I would guess you are one of the former, but you can probably understand that not everyone is like you. This is why there are many companies selling (tennis, for example) clothes. It would be silly if they all made flashy clothes, because then the other people would have nothing to wear. Got it?

I agree with you. Although I don't see how your statement has anything to do with the topic of this thread.

Actually, a formerly stylish Italian sportswear company belonging to a South Korean company is an excuse to let the style go down the tubes. What probably made Fila great in the past were the people who created the clothes. Now those people are gone.

Also agreed here. I only wear the old Tacchini stuff. Their clothing now is garbage, sadly.

Were Fila clothes considered flashy in the 1970s? Doesn't seem so. Those clothes were in keeping with the styles of the time, only Fila did it better than everyone else.

Another point: who is making most of the money in the tennis clothing market? Adidas and Nike I'd imagine, yet they have the flashiest tennis clothes out there, so there goes that argument. In fact, relatively speaking, Nike makes far flashier clothes than Fila ever did. Pinstripes certainly aren't flashy. Short shorts would be flashy now but that's just how shorts were back then, and since nobody wears them now, they'd stand out. Depends on how you define flashy I suppose.

What was so flashy about Fila clothes in the 1970s exactly? Whatever Fila did was obviously a mistake because they're not big like they once were.

As someone who wore Fila in the 1970's it was not the flash but the superior quality of the fabric. Egyptian cotton just felt great. Same with Sergio . The throwback designs for both companies are still around.

I like it. Fila is trying to become like Lacoste and Fred Perry. apparel for the more conservative upscale consumer. I like its simple lines. I used to wear fila in the 70's and now I lie the simple lines. I am too old to dress like Nadal although I like that look on him. I almost only wear exclusively Fila now due to 3 reasons. One, I don't like to wear what every one else is wearing. All you see is nike and adidas at the courts. thats boring. Two, I feel a little nastalgic for the Panatta, Borg, Vilas years and not many younger player know about those years or players and thirdly and MOST important I really treasure the fact that you can get almost three outfits for the cost of the price that you had to pay for ONLY one outfit in the 70's - if you shop around on the various websites.
