will rafa be ready to fight roger in the semis?

No, I'm just facing reality. Federer has tried everything vs Nadal. Nothing works, except for indoors of course where nothing can disturb Federer's fragile game. What takes more talent, dealing with serene conditions or dealing with the elements?

Too bad Fed won 16 slams indoors.

Why wouldn't peak Rafa be ready to face grandpa Fed?
Thanks, when my husband gets home from work and finishes cooking dinner for me and the children, I will send him out to get me a copy of this book and another bag of Quely biscuits. Have you ever tried these biscuits, Rafa loves them, I eat them all day long as I browse the internet for new Rafa pictures. They are delicious you should have your husband buy you some too.
Lol, this was quite hilarious from lsmkenpo. All in good fun, no ill intended.

rafa ran like crazy for 5 hours against verdasco and was ok for the final that time.

This time he didn't have to run that much. So he will be more than ready.

Question is
- Is he at that peak as of 2009?
- 2009 final Fed lost because he wasted tons of break points, particularly in 3rd set. would he repeat.

It's been the usual excuse machine by Nadal and his ****s. Claiming injury. Tiredness (oh heavens me, it took him 4 hours to beat Berdych.....the poor dear will be so tired!)

And the usual claim by Nadal, "of course he's the favorite. I'm just a poor old ba$****."

As usual, CAN'T HANDLE THE PRESSURE!

No wonder Federer is so universally loved. And Nadal is not!

all the things are in favour of Nadal, righty player, single handed backhand, slow hard court, not so hard hitting opponent, previous record, age difference, Fed's back injury...what else he needs.
He will not do a miracle if he beats Federer even in straights...but Federer does.

I know Fed fans don't want to believe this....but Nadal didn't move great in the 2009AO final. He looked sluggish and slow off the mark. And his serve was not good. He had enough to beat Federer, but Nadal right now is in a much better position physically. Nadal looked more energetic than ever in that 4th set vs Berdych, and he trained today (unlike the day after the Verdasco match). The 4th set vs Berdych is the highest quality of hardcourt tennis I've ever seen Nadal play. Better than the 2010 US Open. Nadal's groundstrokes look more aggressive than ever, and he's moving better than ever. 2012 is the new prime Nadal.

<deleted expletive> - it's over. Chris Evert just picked Roger. Surely he'll get nuked now.

Could be worse, Wilander could have picked him, too. Oh wait, he said yesterday that Fed was the "big favorite". I guess the only thing that could possibly save him now would be for Reed to come out and say that Nadal will crush him, otherwise he'll never be able to overcome all that jinxing power... ;)

Reed picked Fed to win AO before it started so I'm afraid our Roger is doomed.

Sure, nadal was on court for over 4 hrs but everybody knows half that time was spent pacing about between points, bouncing the ball before serve, or picking his @ss.

I know, and the "slam sweep" thing with Fed and Murray in 2012, too. Pure GOATness if he can get through all this, lol.

Looks awfully hard against peak Nadal, though... ;)

If Nadal is better dealing with the elements, surely serene conditions should help his game even further, no?

I must say I am more of a Federer fan than a Nadal fan and am also an ex athlete, but the real reason Nadal owns Fed is definitely not based on superior talent, it's athleticism. Nadal is just a little faster, stronger and more consistent than Fed. If Fed is not serving out of his mind his chances of beating Nadal are pretty much nill...

Serene conditions help Federer's game, providing the stillness that Federer craves to execute each shot.

Nadal doesn't benefit at all from stillness. Wind assists topspin. Indoors nullifies Nadal's topspin.

But the biggest gulf that outdoor tennis creates is that Nadal can control the ball better in the wind than Federer can. Federer's shots are more fragile. Indoor tennis therefore brings out Federer's best control (as is the case for most players), while Nadal's best control can just as likely be outdoors since he handles it just fine.

Add to that - arranging his (now receding) locks of hair on the forehead, jumping jack routines, vamossinatorness.....etc etc

Roger served 51% in his 09 loss to Rafa. In his 6 meetings since, in which he won 2/3 hard court encounters he has never gone below a 60% first serve percentage. If he keeps it above 64% there is no way Rafa wins this. It's all in Roger's hands, day or night. Another notable point Roger won more total points in that 09 final than Rafa did serving at 51% .. So its going to come down to Roger serving well. Roger in 4 maybe 3.

Is Rafas shoulder still injured or not? As.far as I can remember he hasn't stopped playing since I heard It's supposedly injured and he needs a break in Feb etc.....

Bookies have fed down as favourite but I think Rafa has the slight edge. Hard court should level things but shame it is a slow one

Yes but athleticism is also a form of a talent, wouldn't you agree? Would even Fed's FH be so effective if he didn't glide around the court so well?

I agree, Fed will need to serve very well throghout the whole match and win the 1st set if he's gonna have any chance of winning at all.
