Will we ever see a Federer/Nadal US Open final?

Was this US Open the best chance they could meet in the final? Do you ever see it happening?

Now that Nadal has finally overcome the semifinal roadblock, do you expect to see him making US Open finals pretty routinely now? What about Fed? Is he too "over the hill"?

I think Rafa will at least make a couple more. I don't see him dominating it as extensively as Fed had a few years ago, but Rafa has evolved into a top hard court player that will always be in the mix. Big, flat, power hitters will still trouble Nadal, and there's always Murray (if they do run up against one another). But if he wins against Djokovic tomorrow, he will back it up as being a legitimate top threat.

Federer can still do it as well. But of course time is ticking for him. Since Fed isn't getting any younger, and this is Nadal's weakest slam...I don't know if they can make the final in the same year. I'll keep my hopes up that they will, though

But at the very least, definitely do not wish AO 2009 to be their last slam final meeting. They have good chances at the AO and Wimby.

I don't think so, but perhaps next year. Of course, the odds go down with each passing year. This may have been the last chance for it realistically. I do think Federer could be back surprisingly strong at the 2011 AO, but the US Open finals may be even tougher for him, just by virtue of more time/wear on the body/possibly even more loss of "fire"/motivation, etc. So, probably not.

How about they will meet again, but early? Like Hewitt and Ferrero did in CA last year. Little publicity, their rivalry is all but forgotten.

Most realistic scenario indeed. They have a decent shot being seeded #1/#2 for the upcoming AO and that may be their last remaining shot at a GS final meeting. How Fed performs at the AO can be very telling.

I don't think it will ever happen unless Federer gets an easy Nadal-like draw or randomly plays much better than in the whole rest of the year like old Sampras.
