Now all slams have night sessions just Wimbledon remains the one which is played all in day mostly. I have never experienced a night grass match( not counting the epic wimbledon. 2008 final as it was a dark match), how would a night session seem at Wimbledon. Although due to time issues I am perfectly fine with how it is as night matches would mean going late night which I don't like that much unless an off next day

I mean they could. However, their is a curfew which I believe is at 11:00 PM. Also, they are very strict about tradition so I doubt very seriously they schedule a 9:00 PM match.

I think between the curfew, and the fact that they want their grass played on as little as possible thus scheduling a night match on centre court would probably mean having one fewer during the day it probably isn't going to happen.

Been there until 10.00 a few times.
The golf course car park stays open for 30 after the last point played
Let’s see … Murray v Stan - one of the first late matches
Djokovic v Tsonga
France v Columbia - yes it was like that, actually more like a war not doubles final.
The ladies doubles final that ended 6-0 - sorry can’t remember who was playing…
Quite enjoyed Swiss Miss and S Vicario v Pierce and another outside court - can watch Hingis all night…….

Then get down the village and hit the pubs

Hawkeye stops working after about 9.15 due to the light
The pubs are full and you can’t get a table after about 11.0 so needs must

Would dew forming on the grass be an issue? A true night match - starting at night, not just a long day match that ends at night.

Though Wimbledon is played at a private club, it's in a residential area, which puts limits on what they can and cannot do. They have to work closely with the local council and the residents. I think they'll be playing on the middle Sunday starting next year, but even something like that takes negotiating. They are always trying to strike a balance between what they want to do and what they are allowed to do. There are logistical issues, issues with transport, noise, etc. So the likelihood of night sessions is slim. Not to mention the issues with the surface itself, the wear and tear and the slipperiness at night.

They don't need it, because they're the most profitable of all 4, I believe!

Even if they aren't, they care more about tradition than the others!

I'd anticipate a decline in the quality of tennis with night matches. The best artificial lighting is still vastly less bright than natural daylight, and this would be especially concerning on grass with bad bounces that would be magnified in impact with inferior lighting conditions. I still remember Bjorn Borg's complaint when the US Open shifted his 1979 match with big serving Roscoe Tanner from daytime to evening, Borg feeling the tournament officials did so to give an American a better chance to advance by making his serves harder to return successfully. (Borg led their head to head something like 12-4, but lost this match)

As much as Night sessions may be fun and are fun , there is a Curfew at Wimbledon set by Merton Council which means any and all play must stop at 11pm.
Outdoor events usually have an 11pm finish under UK licensing laws, because of health & safety concerns. Its also mainly to do with public transport and making sure people get home safe.
Nadal and Djokos semi final at Wimbledon actually broke the law though as they didn’t finish playing until 23:05

ollinger, but at night, the fans tend to have more energy, for whatever reasons, there's more electricity in the air! And that is transmitted to the players! When the USO still had Super Saturdays, many of the latter semis were just spell bounding! The '12 AO Nadal-Djokovic F took place at night; so did the 1st 3 sets of their '18 Wimb SF!

And the athletes in all sports tend to look forward to playing at night. American football in Monday and Thursday Night Football. And UEFA Champions League Football! In most American sports (baseball, basketball and hockey) night play is now the standard; day play the exception! In pro and college American football, the best games are now usually saved for the evenings!

God no, Wimbledon village is extremely high end, safe and incredible. Very little crime. You would feel safe walking at 3:00 am alone with no issue.
It's beyond safe. Think high rent suburb.
Seeing as how I almost got jumped at 10 pm in Covent Garden once (I was saved by a taxi) and had a friend who did actually get mugged in South Kensington, I wouldn't be overly confident about that.

Well, they have introduced a final set tie-break and just announced the end of Middle Sunday from next year so it seems traditions are not totally sacrosanct at SW19 so, who knows?

You would be rescued by one of the spectators carrying a picnic hamper with silver service cutlery. Any mugger would get cut up into little bits the size of cucumber sandwiches by six different sizes of knife.

I was saying that just because the village is an affluent suburb doesn't automatically mean it's as safe as it gets.
Well, I mean every city on the planet has crime. When I lived in London, I lived in Brixton and in New Cross. If you would have given me the choice, I would have chosen Wimbledon.

Yeah I can’t argue with that. I think if you really want to let your guard down you go to Singapore and these days to a lesser extent Hong Kong.

Well, nowhere is guaranteed 100% safe but I suspect Wimbledon Village comes pretty close.
