Wilson Blade V9 2024

The problem is that won’t increase the swing weight right? I’d prob want over 325, maybe 330. But I do love how stable it is even at this spec.
right, it won't change swing weight. I'd add 10g to the handle to optimize the balance (I like the polarized feel more with putty under butt cap more than a leather grip which to me makes the racquet feel heavier), then add 2g grams total of lead tape at 10 and 2 if you want ~5 SW points. Should put your overall weight at a very manageable 332g and really make that stick come alive. Might have to put a few more grams of putty to off set the lead tape in hoop depending how the balance comes out. I've been playing mine at 334g, 322-325 SW, 32 cm balance which seems to be my best setup. Your spec is not bad at all in my opinion... gives you room to customize.

Waiting for the Pro Stock version, until then i will just keep playing with my BP98 v8s and v7s. just restrung all of them for
the spring weather after months of rainouts.
hopefully the v9s are stiffer and more head heavy than then previous generations so i wont have to add some much
lead in the hoop

i guess the Pro Stock v9 should be out in the summer

Blade pro won’t change it’s just a repaint each gen

Yep and same for pro stock Blades (Blade mold not H22). Anyone who likes Blades would much prefer the feel of the pro stock Blade to the Blade Pro/H22. Pro stock Blades are awesome. They do naturally have a tad higher SW than retail Blade, but they are more stable, slightly more powerful, but still have a very soft damped feel without that rubbery feel on contact of retail V6 thru V9 gen Blades.

How does the buttcap work on this version? The replacement grip covers the edge of the large trap door. Do I need to remove the replacement grip to take off the trap door? I like the original trap door design where the replacement grip wouldn't cover the trap door.

The overgrip doesn't interfere with the trap door at all if you wrap it normally. The buttcap has a generous rounded edge, so no need to try to wrap the overgrip extra low to cover the bottom of the buttcap.

Well, it's not even the overgrip. It's the replacement grip that's already covering the edge of the trap door. I suppose the entire red part is the trap door that comes off, right?

I finally finished tweaking with the weight. Added 2.5g at 3&9, 3.7g along the handle. Strung, plus OG.

Stock: 303g, 31.7cm, 290SW
Final: 328.8g, 32.5cm, 322SW

I'm currently using the lightest string setup (15g) among the ones I normally use. The heaviest string setup I would use is close to 17g. This setup allows me to use any string setup comfortably. Special thanks to @Grafil Injection for his advice on using electrical tape across the handle, which spreads out the weight evenly, without increasing the grip size in any significant way.

Does anyone with a Briffidi have twistweight specs of the blade v9? I’m wondering if they just jacked up the twistweight which i’m not a huge fan of.

Mine measured 13.2. It came with the Swingvision paper under the plastic wrap which weighed 3.3 more grams. Not that this effects TW just noting how it came unlike some which I’ve seen without this paper.

I have good feel (you don't have to believe me, but I promise I do). The Blade TW is not high. The stability comes from hoop stiffness or something else, not TW.

best string setup for the Blade v9 16x19?
I bought Alu Power 1,25 52 lbs and
Solinco Confidental 1,25 52 lbs....

But i havent tested it yet...

What do you think about my string setups? Other options?

Thanks a lot

Wondering what people’s unstrung specs were on v9 18x20. My first one was 306g and 32cm balance my second one was 307g and 32.3cm balance and the swing weight is noticeably higher and frame is less whippy.

The more I’ve played with the v9, the less I like it. I actually hit pretty well with it, but I just hate how it feels. It’s hard to describe because it doesn’t necessarily feel stiff or harsh, but at the same time it doesn’t feel like it flexes whatsoever on impact. It just feels somewhat lifeless to me.

Your member name references the GOAT blade in terms of flex/stiffness balance, which will soften so nicely while maintaining that prestige-like yolk flex. Crispy enough to have some heat off of the string bed even after many years of use

Can’t help but think the new flex tech prevents the blade from flexing like a blade should, if that makes sense

After gripping down a size, putting weight in the handle, and dropping string tension, I was able to get the 18x20 v9 to show some of its Forty Five that is actually still there, and it began to play a bit similar to the last two versions. The stiffer racket face definitely felt more flexible at lower tension, but it still keeps the launch angle very low, and I couldn't feel the ball. Very powerful penetrating ball though.

Would experiment with a 4 lb differential if I owned one, but now sure how I'd fix the feel.

I feel the flex, but it just feels rubbery on contact with the ball, not great feel or feedback. And not sure why, but seems to have a lower launch angle than other 16x19 Blades I've played with.

ALU 1.25 at 52 lbs in the 70s-80s F works well. If you have 5.0 racquet head speed I recommend 54 or 55 lbs.

From my play test I found the v8 to be roughly similar to the v9 but thought the v9 to be very, very slightly more muted. I don't use dampeners anymore. Power level is about the same. Either should suffice for the other imho.

Im struggling with this frame a bit. Im finding it a little too muted for my tastes. The handle also appears wider than the previous version.

I think overall its not a bad frame but Im not seeing any standouts compared to the V8 and have already returned to my GP and PS.

Wow thanks I’m definitely not going to get a v9 now. I thought the v8 version was awful, so muted and no power at all. I put a lot of lead tape on it to improve the pop but it was still so anemic even compared to my old prestige racquets. Blades have gone downhill since v5 in my opinion.

sam - did you add weight to the butt cap area too? makes a big difference. I found that the v8 and v9 were the best returning frames I've used, though I suspect that 58 and 59ra frames may be even better if enough weight is added. Soft and very controlled. I never hit with a v5 but it is the same flex as my blue/red vcp's. I think 64ra is the middle of middle flexes such that even junior frames are all probably 64ra too. And string bed make a big difference. For soft frames you'll want a stiffer string bed.

I hit with the Blade 98 16x19 V9 and also agreed with those who say it's too muted. Very similar to V8. For this frame, I thin and its k more lively strings is a must. Something such as ALU power, Tourna Silver 7 Tour, or Head Lynx Tour. Also needs some weight because there's not enough plow, although that could be because the frame I tested was underweight by about 5g thanks to Wilson's bad QC.

Silver 7 tour feels real good in the blade v9 for me.

Love to hear that... I've never tried it but just asked for it to go in my Speed Pro. I'm thinking full bed @ 46lbs? I know these are different sticks (yours is 16m, mine is 18m) but both are good control sticks that don't get overly launchy so the setups could be close.

Yeah you can go real low in tension. 45#s will work

Wilson will always be my go to frame and I just have to get a couple of these. I have been buying pro staffs and blades for the past decade or so. Plus, these just look so damn cool. Can’t wait to have them freshly strung with gut/poly hybrid and start playing with them!

Appreciate your Wilson loyalty, I love them firstly but can’t help enjoying lots of head & Babolat offerings. The v9 blade is really nice aesthetically, probably my favorite of their iridescent paintjobs. Nothing will ever come close to the nCode cosmetics. Still have two nBlades an nTour, n90, & 4 n6.1s aging gracefully !! Cheers
