Wilson nBlade durability ?!

Hi,

I'm about to buy a Wilson nBlade. I like the racquet very much.
One thing that worries me though is that I heared the nBlades would break pretty fast in the throat area, and I definitely want to use that frame for a longer period of time (several years).

Could anyone comment on that plz. Is it true or just some exceptions?

I have not heard of cases of them breaking at the throat, but I'm not that surprised. I hit with one a couple of times, the throat feel very light, and light compared to the rest of the frame, it has a weak feeling to it.

Wilson has quality control issues. Sometimes I think the Q/C department goes be the motto of "variety is the spice of life". So that contributes more to them breaking than the lighter throat I would think. Wilson has a one year warranty on its racquets. If you keep the racquet in good condition, free from excess head wear you shouldn't have a problem getting it replaced if you do get a bad one.

I heard that they are prone to break in the throat area or just above the handle. However this didn't stop me from buying two nBlades. I figured that I wouldn't be hitting the ball hard enough for this to happen to me (nor would I be playing players who'd be hitting the ball that hard).

So far, so good. And anyway, as long as it happened within 12 months we'd get a replacement anyway.

I wouldn't worry about it, don't let the possibility of them cracking affect you. All racquets have the possibility of cracking, so if the nBlades have a bit higher chance then that's just the minor price for the racquet that best fits your game. Swing away. Each racquet is under warranty for 12 months.

I've made that comment before and yes if you hit hard against good competetion then they will crack at the throat. Wilson has replaced 2 nblades for me without question even before they crack (it starts as a paint crack).
Its a nice racquet but with its flexibility and balance it cannot hold up if you're a banger.

Well.. I have never thrown my racket against the ground or something, but I now have my nBlades for about 4 months and my main racket lately doesn't sound too well sometimes. But the sound/feel of a crack, seems to come from the hoop, especially when i hit the ball a little high in the sweetspot. I especially have this when I return fast serves. Ik sometimes get the feeling the racket is breaking on the inside. I have looked for cracks, but I can't find any, so maybe it's just my imagination..

I agree. I kept getting trounced upon until I switched to a k90. Had 2 nBlades for a little under a year. I had a graphite chip happen on the inside. It was rattling around and there was no way to get it out. But it was a great feeling racket.

I really wonder what is Djokovic and Matthieu's setup?

A friend of mine has gone through 3 of them over the past 8 months, always cracking at the throat in the same place. Luckily wilson has been very good about the warranty and replaced them without any problems

My 2 nblades both cracked within 6 months. One of them looks like a very small paint crack in the throat and I still have it and the other one was just replaced under warranty.

I'm really worried now and thinking about sending the racquet back when it arrives.

Maybe I should demo some more racquets.

Could anyone suggest a similar frame to the nBlade, maybe from Head or Dunlop that is more durable?

Look at it this way.

If it breaks in a year you get a new racquet. It is possible to keep getting a new Nblade every few months-particuarly if you buy from different retailers.

I haven't looked closely at the manufacturer warranty but I always returned my nblades to the retailer and they sent a replacement quickly.

I know what you're saying. But my worry is that it'll break after a year, 'cause I don't play that often. Then I would have no chance for warranty anymore.

Sounds like you're trying to talk yourself out of buying new frames. If you don't play that often buy two used frames for the same price and be done with it.

The Nblades can crack if you play at a high level against good competetion. For club players below 4.5 I doubt you would have a problem. My son (17 and a ranked jr) started having problems when he began using stiff poly strings at fairly high tension. When he used softer strings he had no problem.Also note that he used lead weight in the upper frame putting even more pressure on the racquet.

Any frame can and will crack under the right circumstances. My son is currently using an N6.1 95 and I see the beginnings of a problem at the same place (in the upper throat).
