Wilson RF97: onehandbh's review

onehandbh

G.O.A.T.
With grommets for my Yonex 95D no longer available, I have decided to start looking for a replacement.
Candidate #1:

(black) Wilson RF97 in L3 gripsize.

Weight: It feels slightly heavier than my 95D with Fairway grip, but not by a lot.

Grip: The black Wilson leather grip feels great! Slightly soft, tacky. Good grip. Still need an overgrip for humid or hot conditions, though.

Strings: I put in RPM Blast 17g at 53 lbs. My normal string is Volkl Cyclone in 17g or 18g.

Groundstrokes:
It didn't feel super powerful compared to my 95D, but it definitely felt like the launch angle was lower. It also could have been due to me playing on a lower bouncing court than I am used to.

Backhands
Slice backhands felt really good and firm -- especially on return of serves. Still trying to get dialed in on topspin.

Forehands
Decent power but a feels like a little less spin than my 95D.

Volleys:
Had a bit more power than my 95D. Firm and depth were easy.

Serves:
It didn't feel like I was hitting serves any harder than usual or any differently, but the people I was hitting with seemed to have slight trouble returning it. No idea on level of the people? Maybe 4.0 - 4.5?

I only got to hit with it for 1.5 hours. Will try playing with it again to get a better sense of it and used to it.
More detailed review to come.
