If you have any experience with natural gut and poly hybrids in the Wilson Steam 99s, please tell me which strings you used and at what tensions you strung them.

Thanks in advance for your help.

You can just send all your money to me rather than feeding expensive Gut to that string shredder. There is a very good reason Wilson printed a recommendation for thick gauge poly on the side of that racquet.

Hi ACS, my friends main stick is still the Red/Black Steam 99S. We've tried dozens of string setups at this point. If you really want natural gut and poly hybrid, I'd go with Kirschbaum Max Power mains, and Natural Gut crosses. If you put the gut in the mains you'll have a $30-40 stringjob that lasts you a warmup session. Make sure to put gut in the crosses.

Steam 99S and 105S are string eaters. Using any soft non-durable strings strings are contra-indicated. Clients that had these frames used 4G in he thickest gauge they could find that would last 12 hours before having to restring due to notching. NG anywhere in the stringbed is not a good idea unless you can afford to restring every 8-12 hours. It will notch if used in mains and shred if used in crosses. Both will lock up string movement.

Seems like most of the major retailers are not selling the Luxilon 4G S (15 gauge/1.41)? Did it get discontinued?

I played a bit with Wilson Steam 99 S, normal and lite version .. I prefer the custo lite, because it is a little more flexible than the normal version.

besides, I think I have two left somewhere in a corner!
I specify that I am not a player with a game of lift. but I play a little covered up, well, I used strings on these rackets.

I used 4GS, I must have a set or two left, but I would never put it down. it is much too hard and restrictive for the arm!

the only strings which manage to hold a little were for me the strings of more than 1.30mm! and after 6 hours, it was already quite worn, and it was losing playability.

at this rate, my brother first gave me red devil 1.30mm, then concept 1.33, to finally finish on pure aramid 1.30 hybrid and hot stuff 1.40 .. it was the only solution of get a set that could last more than 15 hours ... as much in terms of playability, comfort, wear. but at the level of sensations it was not really that. Kevlar is not really a string of sensations! but all that's in the past!

Thinnest durable poly I could get down to was 1.24, and I could get only a couple sessions before breakage. I can't imagine gut lasting even 1 session.

I use a wilson ultra xp 100s. Its similar to your steam, but stiffer.

Wilson invented revolve for the the 16*15 pattern we use.

I like the Mains that come with this pack but prefer a 15g cross (i use a prince topspin clone), so i bought a reel of the revolve.

You may wanna try a set of to see if you like it.

For your steam id do 56mains and 57crosses. I run 58-59lbs, but i have lead and a stiffer frame
